B-vitamins aren't stored in the system, and must be replenished every day. That said, extremely large doses, unless directed by a definite medical condition, are often overkill, and you'll pee a lot of it out. You likely get quite a bit of the B's from foods (fortified products especially these days) but a good solid b-complex is still a much-needed plus for most of us. Find a moderately sized one and take it every day.

No vitamin becomes harmful with more then RDA because you simply excrete (piss out) what you don't need.

Vitamins A, D, E, and K are stored in the liver, and are toxic in large amounts. However, even highly powered vitamins don't have enough to cause this toxicity on their own. I'd advise staying away from them anyway, because they are unneccesary on a daily basis.
These are the ones you can take every other day.
By the way, check the serving size. Often times these large-dosed vitamins are actually 2 tablets per serving, meaning that you could easily just take one a day and be safe and efficient. You can also buy a vitamin splitter (for like $5) and simply take half a day if the serving size is indeed just one tablet.
