Hey guys...I have read alot about Surge through T-Nation. What are your feelings on this supplement? Most people have been raving about this as a great post-workout drink. Thanks.

I think it's great if you want to afford it. I think it's probably the best.

I'm not sure that the differences that one would see are that great between the best and second best workout drinks. Or, even whey and gatorade mixed into the same macro ratios.

I think that, for people that don't eat all that well, before and after workouts, that Surge is probably of great benefit, despite the cost per serving.

For those who are eating well, it's probably not as important because it's likely that our bodies will still be chock full of the important macros, BCAAs, etc. at and after workout time.

That's my take.

It's supposedly very tasty, too!

John Berardi in a biweekly send out gave a homemade version of surge, noting that it wasn't as scientific or effective as surge, but better than nothing. its 2 servings gatorade (1.5 scoops) and 1 serving whey diluted in 32 oz of water. I used orange gatorade and vanilla protein to get that orange and cream flavor and it was pretty good. So, if you're still debating surge, you might want to give that a try

You could argue is it "optimal" but a home brew using whey isolates would probably yield similiar results. Especially if consuming it pre-wo aswell.

Berardi had a study one time where adding extra BCAA's to a PWO showed more gains than without. The extra BCAA's are in Surge. You can buy the powder and add them to your own drink. It will definitely be less expensive than Surge.
