I've been on adams diet now for about 4 weeks. I started at 196lbs and I'm now at about 180. The fiance has joined in on it as well, and I figure I'm ready to start on a diet that allows me to consume more carbs so I've got more energy for my workouts and... living.

My next idea is this:

Breakfast- Fruit, Yogurt, 1 scoop of Whey, and maybe some oats in a Smoothy

Snack- Veggies & Cheese

Lunch- Slimfast

Snack- Fruits & Veggies

Dinner- Meat, Veggies and Carbs (little bit of pasta, rice, or a roll)

Snack- Some sort of diet meal bar... probably taken around the time of workout.

Should I continue the whey/dextrose drinks before/during/after my workouts as well?

And last but not least, the fiance would like to know what you guys think about skim milk with some sort of chocolate to get some calcium. She hates milk and pills :/

Thanks in advance, please let me know what you think.

Looks good. It would be better if you had your carbs in the post workout window (3 hours). Its a basic nutriet timing principle which replishes your glucose levels after exercise.

Milk is high in calcuim and if you fiance doesn't like the taste of plain milk chuck in some flavouring of some sort. Doesn't add that many calories and makes milk not so bland.

Great work to date Matt, keep up the good work.

I think your weight loss rate is too fast -- 16 pounds in 4 weeks is very rapid and will likely cause you to lose more muscle mass than you want if you continue that pace. I would definitely eat real food for lunch instead of a SlimFast shake to help get some more calories. Good job on eating your veggies!

Well, it was mostly just a break in period. In the new diet I'll be consuming a lot more calories.

I worked hard to get that weight off... hours of cardio and lifting plus eating right was a definate change from eating what I want and never going to the gym.

I think it'll be much easier for me to maintain my current weight while building muscle and working on my endurance with the new diet, simply because I'll be consuming more real food. Veggies and chicken are good, but it'll be nice to get some more substance out of my meals for a while.

Thanks for your comments guys. If I continue to lose weight I'll toss the slimfast and adopt a sandwich of some sort.

I did slimfast for a little while...after the batch I bought ran out I opted for a nice turkey and cheese on real whole wheat (from a local bakery). Much tastier and I felt a bit more filling.

Losing weight doesn't always mean you're losing fat - I'm sure you've lost a good bit of muscle in there too.

I'm tried many diet bars and probably will sometimes again.. even though I know it's not good, but I like the convenience of it. The more I think about what I'm going to eat, the hungrier I get.

(all this is just anecdotal, I don't know of any studies on the subject)

Long ago I did a diet eating 3 a day and not much more.. (dumb, dumb) that's the first time I ended up not tolerating them anymore. I noticed in later years that once a week is ok for me.. but if I have them once a day.. I start reacting badly to them after a week or two.

hehe, I'm not too worried about the muscle loss. I just wanted to lose weight and start from scratch. I never had much muscle to begin with, and I've got a hell of a lot more now than I did when I started... so I'm happy.

Now it's time to start eating more and building up some muscle while still working on my cardio. Looking forward to it.
