Okay so I've been using gatorade powder since before I can remember and I finally made the switch over to Dextrose and Maltodextrin.

I took the advice from a few of you and purchased a bag of each and plan on mixing them 50/50 in a pre and post workout drink.

My question is regarding how much to put in. They sent me these bags filled with the sugar but didn't have any directions on them as far as servings for workouts. It does have a nutritional label for each and the serving size is 1/2 a cup. (1/2c = 290 calories for Dextrose and 1/2c = 310 calories for maltodextrin). Should I use a 1/4 of a cup of each and mix it, or should I go with a lot less as in a TBSP of each?

I'm new to the world of Dextrose & Maltodextrin so any help would be appreciated.

I use 1 scoop of protein powder, 1/4 cup malto, 2tbsp dex. This gives me

23g protein
19g carb from the dex
24g carb from the malto

Approx. 1:2 ratio protein:carbs

I figured mine out by carbs/calories, making sure that 50% of the cals/carbs come from each source.

I use a scale and measure out about two weeks at a time into little tupperware containers that are easy to toss into my gym bag.

Okay so I plan on taking 2 TBSP (1/8c) of Dextrose and 2 TBSP of Maltodextrin and 1 scoop of Protein Powder (17g of protein) Preworkout and then doing the same Post workout.

So all together that would be:

Carbs- 37g (150 kcals) the maltodextrin + dextrose
Protein- 17g (90 kcals) the whey protein

I guess this is close enough to a 2:1 ratio

Look okay?

Not to be extremely picky here..but how did you get 37g for malto and dex?..I get 31g.

I think that looks fine for your ratio.

2 TBSP of Maltodextrin= 18.75g of Carbs

2 TBSP of Dextrose= 18.5g of Carbs

18.5 + 18.75 = 37.25g of total carbs

I just came across this thread because i was seaching for advice on where to get dextrose for my PWO shake.

I'm wondering why use both Malto & Dextro? Rahter than one or the other.

Also, anyone have a brand and online source? thanks

I was wondering: can I purchase malto and dextro at the grocery store? Where would I find it? Thanks!
