Question

How long does the metabolism "remember" something? (any educated guesses welcome..)

If someone trains with alot of cardio and sports 30-40 hours for a couple of years.. and starts "keeping" alot of the fat.. then they stop.. does the metabolism stay as it is for à long time? does it take another "shock" to the body to change it again?

(I have my thoughts.. but they are not very educated..

as far as I understand you're really only going to keep about a 2month max window. it depends on genetics and length\conditioning of the individual as far as time and just "how" shit hot they were.

you look at about a week to adjust to diet changes, another three give or take to actually really "adapt" fully to those changes.

keeping in mind that diet and general activity level of a person can sway that quite a bit. one persons "normal everyday activity" vs anothers can be vastly different.

Diet pills are the last thing I would suggest to someone. How about you not push your website/products on here? Thanks

Diet Pills.. when i went on my first diet to loose 25 lbs, over 30 years ago.. the doctors gave out prescriptions for diet pills very easily.. Well it was the worst thing I ever did. Most diet pills were.. are?.. derivatives of amphetamines.. and I was training 30 hours a week. I was so "not hungry" that I didn't even eat the 1,000 cals the doc had told me to eat.. (he hadn't asked me if i do any sports)*. My heartbeat would go up and stop for a few seconds.. then start real fast.. I lost the 25 pounds in a month.. got into a sugar craving.. and gained 30 in the next 2 months. and I still hadn't learned ANYTHING about eating properly.

ODB has this powdered drink called Accelorade. I think it smells and tastes NASTY at first but after sipping that instead of water or gatorade during our last adventure race, I'm a convert. It's actually a high(er) protein drink though I have no clue what the actual carb:protein ratio is. I just know my body never gave out on me. The mind is a different story Anyway, just a thought since you are looking for something to fulfill day long hiking needs, you'd be carrying liquid anyway so it doesn't add extra weight plus you can sip anytime without having to stop if you're using a hydration pak.

the only protien powder I've found so far is in a huge container for 21$, I would like to try something smaller.

I'll be on the look-out for Accelorade though.

I don't use a hydration pack.. but have been thinking about getting one, though I never do races. But I can actually take my waterbottle and drink from it without stopping..

I don't think I'd put it in the water though.. I'd carry a smaller bottle of it do dose it as i want, and not to be afraid of drinking to many calories in my water. Weight is not a problem for my hikes.. but they might be for xc-skiing this winter. And on skiing I drink much less than hiking.. so I might use it as you say.

Thanks!

if you're going to be a trooper and stick out the four weeks no matter what then waiting untill after to weigh would make more sense. that way you don't get discouraged if something doesn't match your expectations...and you drop the program early. this is naturally assuming that you know how much you weighed before starting the program of course.

something that you *might* not have is measurements...which are nice reference points to have every so often

I know my measurements, bf% and weight from before..

and I'm sticking it to the end no matter what.

I take a long time to decide something.. but when I do.. I just go through with it.

thanks

no question. you're a diamond among rocks.

Have you put any thought into mabey logging\posting some of your thoughts\experiances on training\diet\life in general? You're certainly a treasure trove of experiance, with a natural good sense to boot. If nothing else I'm sure folks would enjoy pondering your ponders.

END of PHASE 1 SBD.

I definately broke the 136 lbs barrier I'd been at for a long time. and I don't feel as I lost any (much) muscle.

I'm at 132 (still 5'6"

rule of thumb I'd say no dried fruit, with the exception of midway\after one of your hikes.

everything else is looking good. something that kind of helped me but might sound stupid is remembering that I didn't *have* to eat the added in items if I wasn't in the mood.

ok.. well that's it.. I gave it my best for 4 weeks.. did the SBD phase 1 and 2..

and after a good start with phase 1, it seems that I'm back at the same place I started.

So.. I'm putting cereals (Bran Flakes) with 1% milk back as breakfasts but continueing to eat protein and veggies instead of pasta and sauce..

and will try to keep carbs mostly around Long workouts.

I am totally discouraged, but it's not the first time.

Shit happens. I've never gotten anything the easy way. Maybe some other time my body will be willing to let go of that fat that I've been hauling around for so long. Maybe not.

Better luck to all of you guys in your cutting.
