I'm actualy posting this for my husband (I wish I had this problem! ) He's in good shape but he just can't seem to keep any weight on or build a lot of muscle mass. He's 6'0 and weights right around 160 - has since I met him 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure he just has an incredibly high metabolism and he also has a very fast-paced job where he's lucky if he gets to eat lunch between meetings.
So here's my question - what can I feed him to help him gain weight?? He dosen't like the taste of protein shakes or bars. Plus - I'm trying to loose weight while trying to get him to gain weight!

That's probably the problem right there. He's not eating enough. Can't gain weight (or muscle) if you don't eat enough.

http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalsm.html

This site will show you how many calories to approximately eat to maintain your weight. Add 500 calories per day to that number to gain 1 pound per week.

Now, record his diet at Fitday Site . I'm willing to say he's probably not close to his maintenance calories.

Be careful, if you eat too much at the BK, it could come back to haunt you:

16 grams of saturated fat... that's not much, is it?

Gee thanks gobbla

Thanks for the advice guys, after I looked at the callorie counter I'm sure he's way under what he should be eating. Apparently he should be around 2800 a day - I guess need to go buy a huge tub of peanut butter and maybe some of those BK sandwiches.

Christina,

Check out this thread as well -- it has great real-life recommendations of what the guys (and gals) here eat to help gain muscle. Of course, that doesn't matter unless he's getting some good resistance training.

You didn't mention exercise; does your hubby workout regularly?

I don't know if it's been said in the links given, but one thing I see popping up often from guys who have high metabolisms and actually get to overcome that, is that they drink lots of milk. This would be a good way to get your husband to crank up his caloric intake.

Like what wtfleyeawhateverugetthepoint said, i dont know if it has anything to do with it, but i have a higher metabolism but i drink a decent amount of milk which helps. I drink 2% because i can and it helps add calories but then again i'm a growing teenage male so i dont know how different it would be. I drink about 3-4 glasses a day of 2% which are each about 10-12 oz. so its like 30-48oz a day which is about 450-720 calories.

Christinia I think 2800 sounds low. I eat 4100 calories on workout days and about 3000 calories on off days. I weigh 135 pounds.

I recomend buying the book Scrawny to Brawny for him. It's an awesome book in fact I did the whole program and my results are all recorded in my training log if he wants to see it (It's in my sig line).

You can buy the book here: http://www.scrawnytobrawny.com/book.html
