I have always liked eating food with sugar. Overall my diet is healthy, with the right amount of servings of fruits and veggies, protein and complex carbs. My big vice is that a meal isn't complete without dessert. This has always been the case throughout my life. I've noticed over the past few years the desserts have raised in quantity and I'm realizing that as a PT I have an image to maintains and my knowledge about what all that sugar (and fat) is doing in my body is scaring me. So i've decided that I'm going to cut down (not cut out completely) but cut down BIG time. My concern when i do this is firstly going back to large quantities. Secondly, that my body is addicted to sugar and will crave it..making this whole diet improvment harder. Any ideas on how to ween off the quantity of sugar to get over this addiction?
Thanks.

Some things I do to help keep my sweet tooth at bay:

1. Eat a piece of fruit. Sometimes that is all I need

2. Drink a ton of water. Feeling bloated will sometimes do it.

3. Brush your teeth. For some reason that'll kill my appetite.

4. If at all possible, get the sweets out of your house! Sure fire way to keep honest.

5. Use sugar substitutes in your desserts. I don't like this because it doesn't break the habit but in a pinch.

The longer you abstain from desserts the easier it will get. Good luck!

I've never been too much of a sweets person (I'd rather have some junk like mac & cheese or various carbs when I'm feeling like cheating), but if I do have a late-night craving, I use sugar-free jello and whipped cream; whipped cream is mostly air, and it's not like I'm using all that much of it, so it takes care of that craving.
