I know this is a very old thread, but I'm new to thisstuff and was oing some searching. I bought a bottle at Walgreens before for $6.99. It includes 100 softgels, 1200 mg per softgel. On the lable it says "Omega-3 Fish Oil Concentrate". Is that the same thing, or is conmcentrate the wrong one? On the back, it says "serving size is 2 softgels", and EPA is 432 mg, and DHA is 288 mg (this is if you take 2). Are mine stronger than the ones you buy? Would you take less if you had these? Sorry for all the questions, first post here!

It just means they pack about 5-10% more per cap. You want 2-3g combined EPA/DHA, minimum, so: 5 x 432 + 5 x 288 = 3600mg/1000 = 3.6g.
Five ought to be fine.

Correct. Five servings a day. But, you could take 9 and still get a bit more than mine.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'm 35, 5'10 and 160 lbs, and just started working out. Took my first two fish oil softgells ever a few hours ago. Will take two more in the afternoon, and spread it throughout the day (totalling 5).

Spread them all out. Since you're going to take five, that's 16 hours over which to work them in. Every three hours or so.
LD: If he took nine, he'd get way more than you. I'm not yet convinced on megadosing fish oil. If, in the vein of creatine, it's a stored EFA, then megadosing after saturation would be wasteful.

This is a marketing trick. There's no way to get a 1200mg capsule that contains 720mg Omega-3 at that price. So, to make them sound extra potent, they make the caps larger AND make a serving two capsules.
He said the serving size is 2 caps. If those numbers are on the bottle (epa/dha) then that's for both caps in the serving.
My caps are 1000mg and his are 1200mg (1000mg * 1.2). If you take the EPA of 432 mg, and DHA of 288 mg, it adds up to 720 per serving, which is 360mg per cap, or 1.2 * my caps' 300mg.

I've got some fish oil capsules that were lost in the move and have recently resurfaced. Can these go bad, and how long will it take them to go bad? It's been several months since we bought them. They've been in a cool dry place the entire time.
I've been told to crack them open and see if they smell rancid or ruined, but fish oil smells like fish oil to me.

Were they sealed (never been opened)? Is there an expiration date on the bottle?
I just keep mine in the cupboard, factory sealed, for a couple of months after I buy them. It gets warm in the summer and they still "seem" fine to me.

One final stupid question: On my bottle it says "fish oil concentrate". Is that a cheaper, more unpure version, or are they all concentrate?
