Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
I don't really have much of beef with the macro ratios, etc. I'm just surprised at the amount that the article says he eats. The Lance Armstrong Workout & Diet
It talks about how he "periodizes" his diet, eating anywhere from 2200 calories to a "whopping" 3500 calories in his peak training periods. I find it hard to believe that he only eats 3500 calories... Come on!
but I doubt it would be good for him to tell people to intake 6000 calories in a day

I know it says "Eat link Lance" but the article never states that Lance eats 3500 calories a day -- I think they're just using that number for those regular folks who are going to be following that 4-step plan. I've heard that he eats somewhere between 8000-9000 calories a day during the Tour de France! Crazy.
yeah ditto upNorth, he ingests and burns a stupid amount of calories, of course they are averaging well over 40km/m.
I think I can average 24 or so on my bike hahhahaha

They burn anywhere from 4000 to 8000 kcals in a typical Tour stage. LA typically ingests over 6000 kcals in a day, and yet he can still lose up to 20 lbs of weight over the 3 week course of the Tour because he can't take in enough. I've read the tour athletes say that during the race, they are either riding, eating, getting a massage, or sleeping. Every waking moment they are off the bike, they are tyring to shove something in their mouth to get kcals and energy in.
If that is not the most grueling athletic event in the world, I don't know what is.
Total calories and carbohydrate intake peak during the Specialization Period, during which the intensity of Lance's training is at its highest. This time period, mid-May through the Tour de France, includes hard interval training as well as racing, and additional carbohydrate is necessary because of the increased reliance on the anaerobic system for energy. Daily carbohydrate intake during training weeks is over 4.0 gm/lb (it reaches about 6-6.5 gm/lb during the Tour), and protein intake increases as well. This is the period of the year when there is a concerted effort to reduce fat intake, but since this program keeps his bodyweight under control throughout the year, he doesn't have to take drastic measures to reduce calories from fat.

My brother trains and races centuries, and on days before, during and after, he eats about 800g carbs. I believe he averages somewhere in the high teens in mph. Power Bars and Gu out the ass! And he's just doing it as a hobby!
