I can't find the link, but I've read that cod liver oil is one of the worst sources of Omega-3s available. Not that it doesn't contain Omega-3s, but that it contains all sorts of other impurities, too. While a couple of capsules a day probably won't hurt, in the amount of fish oil that someone posting here is likely to take, purer is better.
Fish oil capsules are a better choice, as they've been processed to remove impurities, where cod liver oil hasn't.
Did this GNC person tell you why? Maybe there's something other than the Omega-3s in it that I'm not aware of.
A lot of us, here, take fish oil or fish oil capsules for the Omega-3s.
