So i just bought a bunch of fresh green beans and broccoli today. What's the easiest way to prepare these things? I can't stand eating broccoli raw, but I hear its good for you so I need to figure out a way to make it edible. Any suggestions?

For the record, I have no idea how you're supposed to steam veggies. If you suggest that, you need to explain how to do it too

This is how I steam veggies: I take my pasta strainer (which is plastic and has a handle) and hook it on the top of a pot of boiling water. The boiling water should not be touching the bottom of the strainer, simply releasing the steam into it. Then I put the veggies in the strainer and put the lid to the pot on top of the strainer, enclosing the veggies with the steam. Beware melting the strainer!

I put them in a mircrowavable strainer with water(fill it up about half way) and then nuke it for 5-10 minutes depending on how many veggies I am eating and how soft I want the veggies.

I let it sit for 4-6 minutes usually, since I get most of mine from frozen now. Probably only about 2-3 minutes from fresh.

Nuking zaps a bunch of the nutrients though, right Rip? I think I read that in a couple of places.

RockHard, you are correct. As far as preserving nutrients goes steaming is the way to go it preserves over 90% in many cases.

I didn't know that. The majority of the time I eat my veggies raw, but sometimes I like them hot w/ diner so I will nuke them. I will start steaming them now. Thanks guys.
