Hopefully some nutritionist or chemistry major can answer this one, because ever-faithful Google couldn't.

I'm going to attempt to create my own PWO shake. I've bought some whey (just 100% whey in a variety of formulations) and I have some sprouted barley malt powder (sweetener) at my house I was going to mix it up with to provide the carbohydrate side of the equation.

This is the stuff I have.

I've read that the sprouted barley is high in maltose but I was wondering if this is the same as maltodextrin? Or more specifically would this be a good additive for the PWO?

Thanks in advance

I'm going to provide a response to my own post... poor lonely me...

I did a bit more research tonight and I came across this

In fact, maltodextrin's rating on the glycemic scale is right up there with maltose which is glucose + glucose. That means it can cause a large insulin response which would be beneficial after a weight training workout but not beneficial other times of the day.
So, given that, I guess its a good supplement to my PWO shake.

And in case anyone is curious, the combination of whey and barley malt powder tastes exactly like Special K -- only as a liquid. Not too bad all things considered. I think I'll add a bit of cocoa powder to see if I can get it to taste like a chocolate malt!
