I was just wondering about how old one should be before using some suppliments that aren't like natural like protein or vitamins or pre-w/o and post-w/o. i guess like weight gainers, creatine, etc. i'm not really in the know with supplements so i'm just wondering. thank

Pre, during, and pwo drinks are just food in liquid form. You're just timing them to work their best.

If you need a weight gainer, then you'd probably be better off making your own out of real ingredients. The purchased ones are usually sugar and whey. Okay around a workout, I suppose, but not the best sub for food or a homemade shake of real ingredients.

I think creatine (which I take) is fine and would let my son take it, but that just me.

any ideas of what to make some stuff outtta to try and put some calories in me? i'm trying my best to eat healthy food and a lot of it. veggies, fruit, lean meats, whole wheat bread, skim milk, lots of water, some cheese here and there, eggs. also, i've grown somewhat fond of this banana shake thinger i make with the carnation instant breakfast-just CIB, milk, banana, ice cubes. i don't use it to replace breakfast, but i'll have a shake on weekends, days off, etc. i had one this morning at 9, lifted till 10 and then had breakfast. it held me over for that hour. other than that, i'll have a normal CID chocolate shake to go with my breakfast. just something to put some nutrients in me and add some calories.

i have to admit, i still need to work on cutting out the rest of the junk food-the candy at lunch sometimes, cookies here and there, ice cream (trying to switch to more natural sherbet and less of it), etc

i'm trying to eat big and cleaner to bulk up a little bit to add some more power for baseball. i started lifting again about a month ago, and that's when i started eating more and cleaner-before then, i didn't really eat that much-lost my appetite alot-weight was down to 145 from a normal 150-153 range. I weighed in this morning and weight 158 very happy to see that i've put on 5 pounds since starting to lift again. my lifts are up and i'm feeling great. i just want to keep putting on more muscle and since i can't really eat from 7-12 and 12:40-6ish, i wanted something i could have in liquid form to drink quick before practice, during it, and after to add some calories.

any ideas are greatly appreciated

With regards to the supplements: Since you're a teenager I would hold off on anything beyond whey and vitamin supplements. That's just my opinion but better safe than sorry. You're body is going to be going gang-busters trying to grow over the next 4-5 years and I would stick to feeding it whole foods.

To get additional calories you could add nuts to the CIB if you're blender is up to it. I like almonds but you could add PB as well. Both are calorie dense and would go well with chocolate. For veggies you could throw in some avocados. And finally make you're own mayo with good olive oil and use that. All those suggestions add fats but only the good one -- of course I'm sure you know that

thanks i'm looking to get some natural PB and i don't eat the normal stuff alot cause it's soo fatty and stuff. sometimes i do push some in the CIB. i'm also planning on getting some almonds to snack on. i could take a look at avocados-i like guacamole, so i'll probably like them i'll check out the mayo too to put on sandwiches for lunch.
