I heard this story (see link below) on the way to work this morning and it just seemed to really bring into focus how our American diet has gotten to where it is. The story starts with how bacon and eggs became the quintessential American breakfast... it was a marketing scheme intended to sell more bacon that was concocted by the nephew of the Father of Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud! It even had the endorsement of a physician to give it that extra boost of credulity. This has been the model, it seems to me, for much of the rest of the crap that we've been "sold" for all the years since and all playing on our inner emotions. Hence, scores of "comfort foods," fast food and the Marboro man!

I just heard that this morning on the radio. And to think I've been eating a pound of bacon a day because I thought it was doctor recommended!

Of course, I just loved it when mom let me drink the cup of hot bacon grease that was left over.

I don't know - I don't eat bacon very often, but I would never eat a chicken embryo. I eat eggs all the time but always discard the rare one containting an embryo.
