My trainer has suggested that I think about fat burners for my next training phase. This is the first time I've heard the term "fat burner" and googled them and found a lot of negative press about them, with nothing that seemed like an unbiased description of what they are/do.

Are they really a waste of money, or are there any reports out there that weigh up the pros and cons of them. And, I suppose, does anyone on here use them and to what effect?

Thanks guys.

If you use them safely, that is dont take them for an extended period of time and follow the recommened dosage, then they can be effective for more energy, increasing your metabolism, and leaning out.

For my cutting phase I have been taking an EC stack. It gives me a ton of energy pre-wo. I have only been taking it for about a week but I do feel leaner. I only plan on taking EC for 4-5 weeks max.

Hope this helps.

I think (my opinion here) that your body can get used to them and they become less effective (like caffeine and other stimulants do). They might need to be cycled on and off.

Like RipStone says, using them a short period of time is probably best.

Also, the more fat you have the easier it is to lose it through mere diet and exercise. You might save the fat burners for the extra boost needed to get over a plateau or finally lose those last few lbs.

This is just my opinion. A solid trainer would not recommend your so-called fat burners.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Seems like a trainer that is saying go take supplements may be getting a little lazy...I dunno though. But like I said before, I have found an EC stack to be helpful so far. However, my situation sounds different then yours. That is I am already pretty lean and I am taking this to boost energy during my cutting cycle. If it helps shed a little extra fat(which I hope and think it is) then great.

Some gyms sell them, so they may be more inclined to push them.
