saturday I'm having my first track meet of the season, and i have to be there at 9.00 am and ill probably be running sometime between 10-11 for my first event. after that i have to be there at 12.30 and wont be running till 1 or 2 again depending on how the meet goes.

I'm wondering what to eat before the first event, and in between races.

i'll be running the 800m both times, and if you don't understand heres the schedule. http://www.active-faction.com/jokerz/track2.jpg

Before the even, eat a meal high in complex carbs and lean protein. Something like oats and egg whites. During the event, I am not sure but maybe high-GI carbs in the form of a dextrose shake. The only downfall of drinking something during the event is feeling full.

Something great you can eat before is waffles. I have waffles before my races, granted mine are more endurance oriented, but they work really well. Simple carbs will give you a quick shot of energy, so an hour or so before hand would be ideal for these. If you are going to be eating more than an hour before the meet, then I'd go w/ what RipStone said and eat some complex carbs.

In between, again, like RipStone said, some very simple/high GI carbs. If you can't get a dextrose shake, a banana will do. Also, for a quick shot, some OJ works well also. Hope this helps, good luck man!
