Cool

I know we talked about sardines not too long ago because I remember that the chart I posted showed that they had the highest omega-3 rating of any of the fish listed but I couldn't find the post again in a hurry.

Anyway, yes, I was able to buy fresh sardines - not canned - and I grilled them up last night. After you clean them, there's not a lot left but it took less than 2 minutes per side on the grill and they were done. They were good but it would be hard to make a meal out of them even though the whole fish is about 7-8 inches long. Tasty, though!

Nice, I'd be interested in knowing what a fresh sardine tastes like. Love the canned ones though.

Got mine at Central Market. I'd guess your CM carries them, too, at least once in a while. The guy behind the counter suggested marinating in olive oil and cracked pepper for at least an hour. I did but don't have the foggiest notion what that might accomplish!

By the way, I went to CM in central Austin last weekend and HATED it! I felt like I was being herded through the fish market area... you had to take a number and wait in a line. You couldn't even talk to anyone until you got the head of the line and you couldn't even look at fish up close and personal because the line was between you and the display PLUS they had these... thingys... to designate where the line was supposed to be.

When I went back to the South store this past weekend, the people were friendly, you could talk to them - I tend to talk to them a lot - and you could take a look at what was available without having to look over someone else. When I commented on that to the guy behind the counter (who I often speak with), he said that everybody has the same reaction.

I'm just saying all that because I was wondering how your store is set up...?

Mine doesn't have the sheeple herder ropes either, thankfully. In peak hours you do have to take a number though. I usually go toward the end of the night when the fish guys get more generous with their salmon.
