yes, GRADUALLY, that's extremely important. If you add too much in a short period of time your body is already lacking nutrients and its going to grab that energy and store it away as fast as possible, you know what that means, fat gain. I know from an outside perspective it is more logically sound that if you eat less you will lose more but this isn't true. You are dealing with your metabolism here. A VERY complex system. How can I put this is general terms...say your metabolism has five modes ok? It has starvation, reserve, deficit, maintenance, and overfeed mode.
Starvation = you aren't getting any outside energy, your body feeds off of any tissue it can get its hands on for the brief period before you die.
Reserve = you are eating too little to cause a deficit and too much to starve to death, your metabolism is slowing down majorly to compensate and keep you alive. It is burning calories at a much slower pace in other words, think of it as stretching itself out really thin to cover all it's bases. This is where you are at right now, along with the other millions trying to lose fat and giving up every day.
Deficit = eating enough to keep your metabolism operating at it's efficient rate though creating such a slite deficit to maintain metabolism speed function and to use it to burn up fat reservoirs.
Maintenance = you consume exactly what you burn.
Overfeed = consume more than you burn, weight is gained.
Think of it this way, your metabolism is your engine, your food is your gas. In this case, we don't want good gas milage. We want the gas tank to burn up gas at the fastest rate possible. Best way to do that is give it exactly what it wants and needs, then slitely create a deficit (500 calories) so it is running full steem though not realizing there is anything gone in return using energy storage on your body.
That's a pretty crude look at it but hopefully it gives you a better understanding. Your metabolism is a 4 cyclinder right now. Turn it into a souped up V8 and remember the more high quality the gas you put in the more efficiently it runs (aka, eat right). Hope this helps.
