Unhappy

Somehow I've become a slow eater. it takes me forever to finish my meal, even though they're small. Is it just because i'm not hungry??

I've always heard that if you eat slow and really chew your food that you will eat less...if you eat faster you will eat more.

So it depends on your goals as to whether this is a good or bad thing.

Ig,

Have you thought about drinking more of your meals? I know chugging tuna fish or chicken wouldn't be very appetizing, but maybe subbing a few protein shakes with oats or pb depending on time of day & macros might help. Alternating more calorie dense liquid meals you can consume quickly with regular meals if you eat those slowly might make it easier to get the calories you need.

Also, to stimulate hunger, maybe some simple carbs? I know it's frowned upon from a nutritional perspective, but it'll make you hungry more often. Don't know your exact goals in terms of bulking, but if you want serious mass and can stand the increased fat gain adding simple carbs might increase your appetite, IMO.

Maybe it's cause the food is gross?? Seriously - I eat my tuna fish and cottage cheese here at my desk, so I'm in no rush. I'm often surprised to look at the clock and realize I've spent 20 minutes eating my cottage cheese w/berries. No biggie since I'm sitting here working anyway (I get paid to post on JP's board, right?).
When I go out in social situations, I usually end up loosening up my diet a bit (or a lot sometimes), and after a day of tuna and salad and cottage cheese, I can devour my bison burger, grilled chicken, or whatever in no time at all.
I know that doesn't necessarily help your situation - but, hell, I get paid by the word, right???

What's wrong with eating slow? I enjoy the food I eat and like to savor it. It usually takes me 30-40 minutes to eat my meals. Food is supposed to be enjoyed and eating slow helps me do that.

Sorry...I couldn't resist. Hang in there. I had the same appetite problem when I was younger. Now that I'm older than freakin DIRT...calming down now.....I could eat everything in site. This will work in my favor if I ever get my BF low enough to start thinking about bulking. But for now...I have the opposite problem. I love to eat.

About age 27 I gained like 70 pounds in 2 years eventually hitting 200 and it wasn't muscle.. I weighed 115 when I got out of high school so I needed the weight but now I'm struggling to get it all off.

I guess we all have our cross to bear huh?

I need some kind of pointers on this too, actually. I often take an hour or more.... because I forget that the food is there.

I've burnt so many pots and pans in my life... and left food and coffee to get cold... I'm the weirdo who hates food and does it because I have to. That's probably why I've been stuck at 165-170 for so long.

Oh well!

igunick - Im the same way. Are you finding that your "having" to chew your food longer to be able to swallow it? Thats what my problem is.

For the longest time, while I was asleep I'd grind my teeth. Now there to the point that there not so sharp and it takes longer to get my food to the point where I can swallow it. You may be grinding your teeth and not know it. You should work on finding out if you do.

But thats just my two cents. Hope you figure it out.
