While I think Adam's Diet is good, many people don't want a low carb diet, per se. Giving up MOST breads/grains IS probably best for us, but I don't think it's necessary. The best thing about Adam's Diet is that it's so easy. You don't have to count calories or grams of anything. You just follow the simple rules.
I eat more along the TAP or "Clean Eating" styles. I thought there used to be a "clean eating" style thread here, but I can't find it.
Eating this way is a bit more trouble, since you have to count calories and stuff, but it's closer to how most people eat in the real world. You can have bread (whole grain/whole wheat), tortillas (whole wheat), pasta, etc. You just don't have as much as the typical American might have. Plus, the quality of foods is better than the typical American diet. You're not just counting calories, but making your calories count. You do eat fewer cals to lose weight, but it still feels like a lot of food, since the nutritional value is higher.
I'd recommend TAP (Testosterone Advantage Plan) for the diet alone. But, it's also got a good workout to get you started. You can get it through louschuler.com (one of the authors) or at most major bookstores for $13 or less.
If anyone's got a link to the Clean Eating thread here at jpfitness.com, maybe they can link to it?
Now that I've said all that, Adam's Diet is a great place to start. If it works for you and you enjoy the way you eat on it, then you've got an easy style of eating that will work for a long time.
Take care,
Lost Dog
