hey everyone im new to the forums.......im just starting to workout and im going to be supplementing with whey protein,glutamine,and creatine....im working out 3 days a week.....with a 3 month on, 1 month off training cycle....does this sound good?? 3 months on,1 month off??..i read somewhere that you should take time off to relieve stress on your bones and muscles.....also should i be supplementing on the months that im not working out?? any feedback would be greatly appreciated....thank you for your time.....

Welcome to the boards.

I would think that taking one month off would not be a good idea. I think you would lose too much of what you had gained in the 3 months of working out. Most people will take a week off every 8-12 weeks.

thanks oldguy....that's good to know....should i supplement during that off week?? or should i just lay off the supplements for that off week...i've heard you need to give your body a break from any supplement or else it will get lazy and not make its own...im going to be taking 140 grams of whey and 15 grams of glutamine daily..(also a 2 month on 1 month off creatine cycle)..thanks for your help....i really appreciate it.....great forum by the way....very informative.....

Whoa!! 140 gms of whey a day! You'd be better off getting protein from whole foods (lean meat, chicken, turkey, eggs, fish) than from whey. Whey will be good pre and post workout but other times you should be eating. Go to www.johnberardi.com for great nutrition information.

There's no reason to cycle off creatine, and the only reason to load is if your in a hurry. Other than that just 5 gms per day will do you fine. I would keep taking the creatine on an off week.

I don't know much about glutamine and have not really researched it, so maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.

yes, get the majority of your protein from food, use supplements to fill in the blanks if needed.

glutamine can help with digestive problems. that being said, you can get a good amount from food.
