You should read many posts in here, they are very informative. www.johnberardi.com is also a good website, I think. I'll let other more experienced users help you better, but you can read those informations until then

You're probably better off with cottage cheese at night than whey. The protein in cottage cheese get processed slower so it will stay with you through the night.

Definitely go read the Berardi site.

G'day from another aussie.

Something to remember is that protein powder is just a way to supplement your diet to increase protien intake. Its not a magical formula, its just a simple to prepare food source if you like. Its usefulness is as part of a whole diet, not taken on its own merits if you like.

After workouts is good, its a quick way to give the body protein it needs. Before bed as OldGuy said cottage cheese would be better as its slowly digested over the course of the night and so feeds your body protien for an extended period of time. Any other time you take it is just replacing an alternative source of protein. While this is handy, it diminishes the other advantages you get from real foods (such as say fish oils from eating some tuna).

Read the Berardi stuff, read through the first few pages of this forum, think about your current diet, think about how you could modify it, and then use the protein powder to fill in any gaps if neccessary.
