Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
I don't know if this is due to the fact I'm on Adam's diet or because I make protein shakes almost every morning (milk, yogurt, PB, whey, flaxseed meal) and if not it's tuna and cottage cheese but my stomach is messed up
My stomach has been hurting since the weekend.. it starts hurting right after I eat which my mom had and says it's because my acidic level is too high.. result of not eating enough carbs
I also haven't been to the bathroom since thursday .. I went this morning but the stool was really hard and there was some blood (possibly due to the fact I have a 'roid, but maybe something else). However yesterday I picked up some metamucil so that may be what caused me finally to go. I don't want to have to go regularly on metamucil because that makes your colon lazy since it doesn't have to do any work it just waits for the special fibre.
Any ideas on what to do? IS it the high acidic content in my stomach that's the problem? Why would that affect my stool or are they two independant problems?
P.S. Yes I'm sorry I disgusted everyone with too much info.

Well your body has to work harder to digest protein then it does to digest fat and carbs right? How does it do this?
From what I've read and heard, it does so by increasing your acidic level to help break it down. So if you go on a heavily protein rich diet but don't have the counter balancing ingredient (carbs) to act as the base for the acid, you get scarred stomach tissue from an extended presence of over-abundant acid.
I am by no means even an intermediate when it comes to nutrition but would that above statement be true?
Obviously not everyone is the same so some people here may never exhibit my problem or may take them longer to do so, but do I understand protein digestion at least slightly?
I don't think there's anything special about the added fiber. It's just plant based fiber, like you'd get in veggies. No harm in taking it when you're not getting enough from veggies.
But, you're missing out on a lot of nutrients by avoiding veggies. Here's a chart of fiber in fruits and vegetables.
Many dieticians recommend that we get about 1 gram of fiber per 100 calories of food. You may not get enough, if you are low carbing it, but by picking carefully, you should be able to get close and supplement with some fiber supplement.
Hmm yes but back on topic regarding my original problem.. can eating too much protein and not enough carbs cause your stomach to become too acidic and have the problems I have?

Eating too much protein and no fiber causes the constipation or the stomach pain? I don't think the stomach pain is related to constipation since it only hurts right after I eat and then settles down until the next meal.

If you're "acid level" was too high, then an antacid or two would solve it. It could also be too low if you have hypochlorhydria (http://www.aliv-e.com/EN/education/articles/digeen2.asp). If it's too low, then you could try the vinegar tip at the end of this article.
As the article says, "As always, if hypochlorhydria problems persist, see a health practitioner."
I know little about the subject. Perhaps too much animal protein can cause an ulcer to get worse, but I know a lot of people who eat more than the mere 40g of protein a day that the site recommends and have no ulcers.
Hmmm I'll ask for that Heidelberg test to see if I deficiency of HCL. I don't think I have peptic ulcer as the symptoms don't match up. I got an appointment with my doc on Thu but he's really an idiot so his diagnosis won't help much, if at all. Heidelberg test should but since he probably can't do it, the waiting line for a specialist will probably be 3-4 months.

I can't really track how many carbs (or any nutrient) I eat per day since I don't make dinner and have no idea what all goes in it or how much.
Fruits I have 1 every 2 days .. veggies I really only eat during dinner (except for little lettuce/tomato in my lunch sandwhich). So I'd say about 1 serving of veggies a day.

Bo, veggies are super important to overall health. You really need to make an effort to eat more.
IF you dont like them make sure the ones you do eat are nutrient packed(brocolli, spinach, kale, chard, sprouts, etc). Potatoes and corn dont count either
Yeah looking back at it, it really does seem too low. I really try to avoid rice, pasta and potatoes so I'm good there but I SHOULD make more of an effort to eat more veggies.
And I think I also figured out why I had such a high HCL (acid) content in my stomach. For about 5 days or so I took these papaya enzyme pills to help me digest. Don't ask why, no one prescribed it, I just thought hey, faster digestion, can't hurt.
Well it can and did as I'm now pretty sure this is what caused it. The stomach is returning to a more normal state (it doesn't get aggravated right after I eat anymore)
So let that be a lesson to you.. don't take digestive enzymse unless your HCL level is really low.
If you're problem is solved - that's cool. . .but for the constipation make sure you're getting enough water. Fiber is only half the equation - Hard/slow moving stool can be helped with sufficient water intake.
