Couldn't hurt! You sure your mom doesn't already have one?

As for shakes: I have a 32oz Gatorade bottle that I've used a re-used for over a month now. I put all my workout-shake ingredients in and just shake it. Works fine.

However, there are other kinds of shakes that are very helpful for the gym-goer, especially bedtime shakes and such. These often include cottage cheese, nuts, peanut butter, etc. that need a machine to actually blend properly. So if you're interested in those (they're fun and great for you) then go for it.

Which reminds me:

Check out Johnka's site for some great shake (and many other) recipes.

Rock, chemically speaking a glass Ball or Kerr jar would be a better choice, especially if washed. Those plastics like pop and Gatorade bottles, designed for single use, can grow bacteria if not sterilized or washed well. If you DO wash it regularly, you can actually break down the plastic and be ingesting harmful chemicals.

The plastic bottles DESIGNED for reuse, like water bottles for your bike, won't break down (as fast), but still need to be washed - preferably in very hot water in a dishwasher. Glass is much more inert (stuff doesn't grow/stick to it as easily) and is more easily cleaned, since it doesn't have microscopic scratches in it to trap bacteria, etc.

I just went overboard, didn't I?

Puppet, I use a blender once or twice a week. The rest of the time, it's the old fashioned jar.

Thanks for the info. I have been washing it well, but I'll dump my Gatorade bottle for now!
