I just picked up the newly designed Gaylea 2% cottage cheese.. now this one has a bigger more detailed nutrition listing and I was surprised to that out of the 2.5g of fat it containts per 125g serving, 1g is saturated and 0.1g is trans fat

trans fat??

I looked at other ones but the Gaylea is the only one that breaks down the Fat. Others just list fat. However I looked at ingredients and they're ALL the same, thus I think we can assume they all have trans fat.

Did anyone know this? I know it's a small amount but still, that adds up every night.

Does anyone know of any brands that list 0.0 trans fat?

I buy my store's brand of fat free cottage cheese. 0 grams of fat, and no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils in the ingredients.

isn't the fat free usually overloaded in carbs though?

i guess that depends on the definition of 'overloaded'. This brand has 5 grams of carbs, 13 grams protein per 1/2c serving

You caused me to go take a look. Last time I was at the store, they ONLY had Organic Valley and I bought the Lowfat kind.

Serving size 1/2 cup (110 g)
Calories 100
Calories from fat 20
Total fat 2.0 g
Saturated fat 2.0 Cholesterol 10 mg
Sodium 450 mg (WHOA!)
Total Card 4 g (sugars 4 g)
Protein 14 g

Ingredients: Cultured organic parturized skim milk, organic pasturized cream, organic nonfat dry milk, citric acid, salt, carrageenan gum stabilizer, acidophilus/bifidus culture, vitamin A palmitate, enzymes.

Where's the fat coming from, the cream???

Looks like the cream is where that fat is coming from.

Hmmm the 2% I bought has 5g of carbs too but the 1% has 8g .. I didn't see a 0% fat but the way it was going it would've been over 10g

you definetly got a good one there then spacebaby, wish I could find one too.. maybe I just gotta go to a different store

btw since I'm 23 I never really pay attention to sodium since I heard that's more of a problem when you get over your 30's, but what's a "good" amount of sodium per 100g? I'm assuming 450mg is a lot

Well, its just the store brand (Giant Eagle for those interested) so I can't imagine they are doing anything special.
