Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
In today's Wall Street Journal, there are two articles. The first provides hope; the second, at first blush, doesn't, but may have a silver lining.
Item 1: Coke's 'low-carb' entry into the gigantic beverage market, C2, is a total flop. WSJ:"But sales of C2, after peaking in late June and early July, a few weeks after the products introduction, have fallen by nearly 60% in U.S. supermarkets, compared to the 15% seasonal decline soft drinks overall expreienced through early October...."
My editorial: Thank God! What idiot would want a half a diet/half-regular cola in order to 'cut carbs'? Yes, the typical American idiot, but hopefully us dolts - ahh, I mean consumers - have become smarter and realized colas and soda pop in general is not a good thing for our health. Certainly not in a 64 oz. Big Gulp cup.
Item 2: McDonald's 3rd quarter earnings surged 42% "due to a wave of new menu items and marketing efforts at the world's largest restaurant chain." McD's attributes the increased earnings to higher sales in items like their new fried chicken strips and white meat nuggets.
Bad news, right? Well, there may be a silver lining as the WSJ points out that part of the growth has been due to new salads, sliced apples and milk, which are also included as options to fries and soda for kids' Happy Meals. As a matter of fact, milk sales at the Golden Arches have more than doubled since the introduction of this option. Hmmm, how will Coke, McD's long time partner view this development, especially since they are already hurting and the C2 fiasco mentioned above isn't going to help things? Can you envision "McMilk" or "'Coke-flavored milk' in which the cola syrup is added to milk? If there's money to be made, I'm sure the companies can. Coke-Milk™ - remember, you heard about it hear first!
Coke should have learned a lesson from Pepsi - the new formulas never work.
I bet the slump in Coke sales will turn around in a year or so, when people looking for a quick fix will find that Atkins isn't the secret formula that allows you to eat 6000 calories a day and stay lean.

Wasn't Coke the one with the new formula first, trying to taste more like Pepsi with New Coke? Then, the old Coca-Cola returned with Coca-Cola Classic, and then New Coke was phased out.

Well not like Pepsi dosen't have a competing product in the marketplace. Not sure of it's composition. If coke had eliminated aspartame they coulda worked that angle, but NOOOOO.
I confess that I like the Vanilla Diet Pepsi and Diet Vanilla Coke. Kinda iffy on the Diet Lime Coke, though. Wal-Mart here sells Pepsi flavor packs that you can squirt into your favorite beverage.
Jax, that was the first thing I thought of also -- Laverne! LOL. My mother has told me she used to drink Dr. Pepper and milk. Bleh!
