I am in college and I do not have a lot of money to spend. Right now I spend between 50 and 60 dollars on food and protein mix a week. I am looking to make that next step in my training and I would like some input on what is a good buy when it comes to supplements and which ones to buy?

I use a protein power with some vitamins along with a good diet but I just can't seem to get that cut look. I don't mind being known as that BIG guy but I would like to have some tone to match my size.

I have looked at some of the products on the market but which one's work?

The one thing I would like to find is something to keep me full longer. I invested in a rice steamer and that seems to help but I am getting conflicting info about eating rice as a filler.

Rice is one of those things can initially fill you up, but that feeling can go away quickly. Particularly high GI, white rice.

There aren't too many "products" that will fill you up, it's mostly choosing the right foods.

Protein can make you fool faster and fats keep you feeling full longer.

Other than protein powder for pre and post workout, the only supplements that I'd recommend would be creatine and gatorade or maltodextrine. Creatine's pretty cheap and proven to help you get more out of your workouts. Gatorade or maltodextrine goes with the protein powder for your PWO drink.

I'm not real experienced with cheap eats, so I'll let others respond on that part.

ON Whey Protein powder is the best that I have found for the money. You can buy 5 lbs online for about $25. As far as other cheap, clean foods:

oats, tuna, eggs, cottage cheese, natty pb, the list goes on. As long as you buy things in bulk, you will save money and be able to eat on your budget. I know a lot of people around here eat on that budget. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago that asked how much everyone spent on groceries in a week. Scroll down and you should find it. Good luck.

I use fruit punch flavor gatorade (48g, by weight) and Vanilla Pure Protein powder (30g, by weight). It tastes fine (it's no ice cream shake, don't get me wrong) and gives my a 300 calorie shake with a carb to protein ratio of 4:1.

I've heard Orange Gatorade and Chocolate Protein is good, but I've never tried it.

Eggs are not too expensive and are a good source of protein. Cans of tuna are also good and not cost prohibitive.

Do you have a membership to Sam's or Costco? I go there and stock up on tuna (like 12 cans for $3 or something like that). I also get a ton of chicken breasts there and grill 'em up on my Foreman.

As for protein supps, Costco acutally has a 20lb bag of protein for pretty cheap (not sure of the exact price). Also, check out www.ezpricematch.com They will take any price you find on a supplement they carry (they have a ton of stuff), and knock 5% off the price. It's a pretty sweet site. Good luck.

when it comes to supplements, think food: protein, creatine efas, vitamins, minerals, etc

something to use in addition to your diet if needed.
