i'm currently eating one can of tuna (150g dry weight = 45g of prot per can) each day, but i want to rise my calorie intake since i'm losing weight.;
now since i love tuna and it's very cheap i was wondering if it would be harmfull to eat 2 cans each day (not at the same time ofcourse).

Mercury has been the biggest concern about tuna. The solid white has the most, then comes chunk white, then comes chunk light, with the least. It's all about fish size. Solid white comes from the biggest fish, while chunk light comes from the smallest.

If you are concerned about mercury, chunk light is the safest bet. Sometimes, I eat two cans of chunk light per day.

Are you eating the tuna in olive oil? Because that might be a good way to up your calorie intake without the risk of mercury.

Though for all I know, the mercury issue might not be the same in Belgium as it is here.

Here, tuna comes in white and light. White is very light in color and can be in solid pieces or broken up a bit, while light tuna is a little darker and not in solid pieces. It's more "shredded."

You can get white or light in water or oil, depending on your preference.

Light tuna comes from smaller fish, and possible from a different type of tuna, than white. Since the fish are smaller and younger, they haven't eaten as many other fish yet, which would have caused their mercury content to go up.

We call all sorts of fish tuna (tuna, albacore, tongol, etc.). You might use the real names for them in Belgium.

I've heard that canned tuna is sort of a "specialty food" in Europe, and not "everyday food" like it is here. Is this true? Here, tuna can be really cheap (88 cents a can, at the store yesterday, for chunk light, in water.).

Three potential problems of excess tuna consumption:

1. You sprout gills

2. You can't get into your car anymore because of your dorsal fin

3. Mercury poisoning

Like you I did eat a lot of tuna but this past summer I had to spot eating so much. I noticed that when I was training for football and I started to sweat in the noon day sun I slightly smell tuna or a fish smell coming from me.....not good. Even my roommate could smell it after our workouts in the hot sun. After that I switched to chicken...

I recently read that if you want to obtain the most Omega-3 fats from your canned tuna, you should either buy the water-pack (Omega-3's won't leach into the water) or refrain from draining the oil out of your oil-packed tuna.

I'm so hooked on the tuna packed in olive oil that the water packed stuff tastes nasty to me now. So I have just been dumping all of the tuna and oil onto salad greens, hoping to get every last drop of Omega-3.

from what you guys are talking about the mercury problem i'm glad we (australians) don't have that problem, or at least to my knowledge

i love tuna but i keep varying what it comes in for a slight change in taste cause too much of one thing does get boring

i guess you should jump onto the workouts pages and find a good workout for your dorsal fin
you don't want it to look out of place when the rest of you is shredded

lol
