Hey guys,

I recently heard somewhere (can't remember where) that diet soda can cause tooth decay like regular soda. I'm not a mad diet soda drinker although I do find diet coke vanilla really gets rid of a sweet craving!

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks.

I can tell ya that I've been known to kill a 2 liter of diet coke per day and I haven't had a cavity in 24 years.

I've seen a commercial before about it and they claim that the acid in diet soda can be bad for your teeth.

I think it's the sugar in the soda combined with poor dental hygene

Yes, new research has found that the acid in soft drinks contribute more to tooth decay (actually it eats away the enamal) than the sugar. Basically for your teeth a diet coke is just as bad as a normal coke (weight loss/gain wise obviously the coke is still worse). Interestingly they also found that the lighter the color of the drink the worse it was. Cant remember the reason why though.
