I am running out of a pre-mixed PWO Anabolic drink and its kinda expensive so I think I'm going to start mixing my own PWO drinks. I have some chocolate flavored Whey powder and I'm wondering if anyone has some good ideas of high GI carbs that I can mix with it and that obviously taste good.
Maybe I'm being lazy, but how does Malto cost compared to something like Gatorade? I don't think any Gatorade flavor would taste well with Chocolate, so I'm think Malto is the only way to go? Anyone know of anything else that can be mixed with it?
Thanks!

If you must use Gatorade, I've heard orange goes best with the chocolate.
You can find malto at many supplement sites on the net. The local supplement shop here carries a few different ones. They were pure malto and were pretty cheap ($9-13 for a couple of lbs).
You have to look at the ingredients, as the bottles have fancy names like "Gain a Lot," "Carbo-Up!," and stuff like that. None of them were called "maltodextrose." But, when I checked the labels, that's all that was in them.
I just picked up a 3 gal container of Orange Gatorade powder. I try to get a 3:1 Carb to Protein ratio in my PWO so I used a full scoop of the powder that is about 63g Carbs. I think I realized what a difference the Sucrose makes in the drink. It was SOOOOOO sweet!
I had mixed it with about 16oz of water, but will definitely have to dilute it a lot more.
I guess this will be better though anyways, due to the 5g of Creatine I'm also mixing in.

I dilute mine pretty heavily. My "during workout drink" is 50g carbs/25g protein in about a liter of water. I'd actually like to dilute it more, but I'd have to carry two bottles around with me or carry a huge jug. A decent liter bottle with a lid that's easy to drink from was hard enough to find...
I always feel like I'm rationing the drink during my hour workout and could easily drink more liquid. I usually end up finishing it off 3/4 of the way into the workout and refilling the bottle with water for the remainder. For a couple of days, I tried carrying two shaker bottles around (750ml each), but it became annoying to carry them around the gym. I suppose there's always my CamelBak!
I actually mix up a pre workout drink with about 10g Protein and 30g of Carbs and drink it 5-15 min before my workout. Also mix up another drink the same way and drink it throughout my workout. Each one is mixed with about 16oz of water. The water seems to be an adequate amount during my workout and its pretty easy to carry around. I just have to work on finding a larger bottle for my PWO drink that right now has twice the mix in the same amount of water.

3 gallon container of gatoraid..wow. I bet that wasn't cheap. Just order some dextrose online for $2 a lb. I bought ten pounds a couple months ago and I'm no where close to finishing it plus it taste great in the shakes, make the protein a lot sweeter without that annoying gatoraid taste.
You can get a 4 lb bag of malto, and another 4 lb bag of dextrose for $20 at proteinfactory, and make an awesome PWO at home. Just be prepared to wait about 2 weeks for delivery.
I got my 3 lb containter of Gatorade for $7.75.
What are the prices by you guys?
It seems to be comparable in price to the Malto or Dex, and maybe a little cheaper (no shipping cost).
Though I might need to consider the nutritional benefit of using malto and dex in the PWO drink, rather than Gatorade.

That's a good price Mountn21. I think gatorade is just dextrose with some salt anyway. So go for it if you enjoy the taste.
The only supposed benefit of combining dextrose and maltodextrin is that they are each absorbed in separate 'channels', thus increasing the overall insulin response when combined rather than consumed individually.
