The only form of chicken available everday in the cafeteria at my University is deep fried white meat chicken breasts. I was wondering if it would be unhealthy to include one in my day to day eating. Would it be healthier if I removed the batter from it?

I'm currently trying to gain weight and trying to figure out how to get enough protein. I keep tuna and whey powder in my room but money is tight so I have to limit my servings of powder. I just started using fitday.com to keep track of what I eat.

I know what you are talking about. However, the cafeteria at my University also had cold cut meats like turkey, ham, and chicken. Does your's have a deli section?
Also I would think it probably has a salad bar that might also have cottage cheese? Some people hate the stuff, but I love it and it is a great source of whey and casein protein, and even better when you are bulking. 1 cup has about 30g of protein.
Another idea is to buy chicken in bulk from the grocery store. I recently found chicken for about $2.78/lb, which a pretty good deal, considering that 8 oz has around 40g of protein. If you know someone that has a Sam's Club membership and there is one in your area, then see if you can go with them sometime and stock up.

I'm far from a nutrional expert, but if you have to eat at your cafeteria (that is you could always bring a lunch like tha majority of us) and you have to eat deep fried food, removing the batter would be better than eating it, but not eating the deepfried chicken would be the best.

Pack a lunch.

Thanks for the advice guys. I looked about and found we do have a deli in another one of the cafeterias that serves subs made with turkey and chicken. I do have to eat at the cafe because its part of the meal plan required to enter dorms at my university but I do make as much food as possible in my room.

That sucks. Be wary of refined carbs with the sub bread. Do they make salads as well?

Just a thought.
