I have been putting a scoop of whey in a shaker bottle and taking it to class. I add the water/milk on campus So far I'm coming home and washing it with soap and water and letting it soak and dry. The problem is...it smells awful! What to do??
I've found that Nalgene and Cyclone bottles resist the stink factor better than any others. Also, be sure to wash it out as soon as you finish the shake. If you don't have a sink, at least run some fountain water into it ans shake it a few times. Makes a world of difference.
I'll have to run some water from the drinking fountain through it when I'm done I guess. This is a new issue for me cus I just started working out at my college gym in between my morning and afternoon class. It was so much easier just using a blender at home. BTW, I'm gonna try running it through the dishwasher. Has anyone tried that?
My plastic ones never stink. I sometimes even let them sit in the car (in the heat) all day after a workout. I don't ever use milk. I wonder if that's the difference.
Also, after I drink the shake, I usually fill it at least halfway again and drink the water. Not really to rinse it, just because I'm still thirsty. But, it's a rinse, none-the-less.
I think the "rinse" is key. I might dry some baking soda and a run through the dishwasher too. I caught a nasty whiff of it today and I can't get the smell outta my nose...(I'm not psycho)...it was nasty.
All of my shaker bottles smell terrible. I am really bad about forgetting to wash them out for days. I can't get the smell out of any of them but it doesn't bother me all that much. I must have gotten used to it.

Nalgene is the key. It never gets stinky permanently. It definitely is the milk that makes it stinky (+some whey shakes stink more, Nitro-tech for example is really stinky).I used to have stinky problems with my Rubbermaid bottles before, but got rid of it. Every time you rinse it off at home, add a bit of clorox and then wash it thoroughly again. If you want to desinfect it with something less spooky, about 30-40 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract in water will do it.
I got a nalagene one from my local mountainering store. Hopefully it will work. My other one(w/ the issues) is plastic/rubbermade. I think I might try some lemon juice too to get the stench out.
