if you ingest large amounts of non essential amino acids (that your body already makes) could one hypothesize that your body COULD stop manufacturing them because they are being provided from an outside source. I'm basing this on the theory of tesosterone production halting by the feedback loop when using large amounts of anabolic steroids. Is there a similar feedback mechanism for amino acids or are they just de aminated, stored as fat or excreted in the urine.

One COULD hypothesize that, but that's not how protein metabolism works. Protein is not stored. Excess protein is excreted in the urine in normo-functioning individuals. The "feedback" mechanism on amino acid synthesis is also not the same as hormones. If there are lots of free floating aa's around, they get used. If they're not, they're synthesized (if non-essential).

Interesting, I would like to explore the feedback mechanisms, but i'll do that later. my next question is is consuming (supplementing) amino acids that are non essential necessary. I have heard the argument about glutamine. How if your amino acids are not in certain portions you use more glutamine or something along those lines. is this necessary and why or why not?
