I haven't seen this version, but it sure sounds good:
Quote:
HOUSTON, Nov. 17, 2003 - Omega Protein Corporation (NYSE symbol: OME), the world's largest manufacturer of fish oils containing healthy long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids, is pleased to announce that GFA Brands, Inc. has introduced SmartBalance® OmegaPlus, a buttery spread fortified with Omega-3s from the sea. SmartBalance® OmegaPlus is available in stores across the nation and contains OmegaPure®, a taste-free, Omega-3-rich fish oil manufactured by Omega Protein Corporation. The buttery spread also contains natural plant sterols with no hydrogenated oils or trans-fats, as well as both important long-chain fatty acids (EPA and DHA) from marine sources and ALA Omega-3s from plant sources.
I have the old SmartBalance, which tastes good. I hardly ever use it, saving for things that REQUIRE butter or margerine on top to taste right.
Does the new one list the EPA/DHA amounts? Or just Omega-3 and Omega-6 amounts.
The old one just says Omega-3 400mg per serving/Omega-6 2300mg per serving (1 tbsp). So, with an almost 1:4 Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio, it's not such a good source of Omega-3s. But, if you've gotta have some margerine, it hits the spot.
i started a thread asking about it on the MH boards a while ago, but i'm not sure if it got many (if any) replies (i'd provide a link, but alas, the search function is not working [shocking i know]).
i'm not too sure about the nutritional info (looked ok to me), but it is pretty tasty on toasted flax bread alongside an omelet.
but then again, according to my grandmother bread and butter should be served with every meal, so it may be a bit of wishful thinking on my part saying that it is both good and healthy. looking forward to any other opinions.
