A compound in blueberries appears to be effective in lowering cholesterol, according to a study using cells from rat livers.
The compound, called pterostilbene, has the potential to be developed into a natural medicine for lowering cholesterol, particularly for people who don't respond well to conventional lipid-lowering drugs.
The compound was at least as effective as ciprofibrate, one of the drugs used to reduce low-density or bad cholesterol and triglycerides, and more effective than resveratrol.
Hm, I seem to remember a post by Gardener earlier this year about the positive health benefits of blueberries. Looks like he didn't underestimate this little blue pearl!
