Let me first state that my wife is paranoid. She gives me a hard time whenever I take protein supplements or creatine supplements (or any other supplements, for that matter). Her argument is that supplements are "not natural", and that it can't possibly be good for my body.
Normally, I can deal with it. But the problem now is that we're trying to have another child. So this morning she gave me the third degree because she is afraid that my PWO shake can have a bad effect on a) getting pregnant, and b) the health of my sperm, and of the baby once she does get pregnant.
For the record, I started the BoM Intermediate workout (awesome, boy am I sore), and "Adam's Diet" (sorry, Adam, but I think you're stuck with it now ) yesterday, so I mixed creatine and protein for use during and after my workout (per #s 8 and 9 of the diet).
I am tempted to ignore her and continue to do it. But, if there's something to her argument, I don't want to be guilty for the rest of my life if (God forbid) something happens.
So, does anyone know of any research that has been done regarding this? Does anyone have any opinions (certainly not on THIS board )?
Thank you.

Hi JC,
If anything, the PWO shake will help you in your goal to produce a child by increasing your recovery and positively affecting hormone levels
Whey protein powder is no more 'unnatural' than eating a bowl of cottage cheese. The juicy stuff in cottage cheese is whey, and the curds are casein (another ingredient in some protein powders).
Creatine is also a naturally occurring substance in meat.
I'd be more worried about the hundred or so chemicals listed in your shampoo ingredients than your PWO shake.

Sometimes you have to make your spouse happy...
You might consider switching to making your own PWO shakes from cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt. It might not be ideal, since you have to refridgerate it, but I used this for quite a while.
I actually like them better, as they are thicker and keep me full longer, just not as convenient.
When blended, cottage cheese is smooth and tasty! You'll have to add some sort of flavoring to it still. A little frozen fruit added in makes a good shake.

If your wife is hellishly unrelentless then I would go with cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, nuts, whatever.
BUT, what the theory behind PWO shakes is to supply your muscles with lots of protein to trigger protein synthesis and getting it their quicker from an increased insulin spike. Whey protein is, not only a convient supplement, but a very fastly absorbed protein compared to cottage cheese. Milk and yogurt would cause more of an insulin spike than cottage cheese (I think) but you might run into problems with using these according to "Adam's" diet. It's really up to you.
Good luck with the wife and the new baby.

Thank you all for your replies. I don't think that my wife will listen to reason - I've already tried. She refuses to believe that it's "natural", although she'll eat McDonald's french fries without issue.
Not sure what I'll do. I love milk, so I might try Lost_Dog's idea. I was trying to steer clear of it, though, since I'm trying to get my diet under control, and Adam's diet seems to work.
Sometimes I wish women were more rational. But then they'd be men, which wouldn't work either.
Thanks again for the ideas, and the good wishes.

Do you work outside of the house and/or go to a gym? If so just sneak it around her and drink it whenever she isn't there I love it because it's so easy just to bring a halgene bottle anywhere and add water.
She won't know and will be pleased with the results helping the whole conception part....

Just suck it up, do what she says until she's pregnant, then go back to what you're currently doing... How long should it take, one month tops?

Spoken like a married man. I think I'm going to go in that direction, and drink some skim milk after my workout. Milk is one of those borderline foods in the diet, but it shouldn't be too bad, since I'm hoping to spike my insulin at that point anyway.
