My friend is currently trying it and he said he is seeing some progress. He has also changed his eating habits, so it is hard to say which is to thank. He said he feels kind of jittery, but it must be worth it.

I would consider it crap, especially for the price. The ephedra is what made hydroxycut effective.

Ditto....w/o Ephedra, what's the point? That was the only ingredient with any proven worth.

(HCA)first introduced as a diet aid to help treat obesity, HCA is obtained from the rinds of the garcinina fruit of south asia. Although it can be used year round most body builders find it most effective in the months leading up to a competition.
HCA is unique to other appettite suppressors as caffeine and ephedrine in that it does not effect the CNS. In addition, it does not stimulate the body to cannibalize lean muscle tissue as a fuel source. Instead, it prevents the conversion of carbs into fat.
Taking this substance with ephedrine only incrases the results. HCA is the only substance available by over the counter sale that inhibits fat production by the body. other products may increase the rate of stored fat metabolized(ephedrine), but none prevent fat synthesis. Most HCA products are available as calcium salts and three of the most popular brands are citrimax, citrate, and hydroxycut.

i found this on the facts about fitness website

Garcinia cambogia (also known as hydroxycitric acid, HCA, or CitriMax™) is an ingredient found in many weight loss supplements. It's derived from the rind of the fruit of Garcinia cambogia, which is used in Asian cuisine. Animal studies as far back as the 1970's show that large doses of HCA inhibit the conversion of carbohydrate to fat.

Specifically, HCA is supposed to increase fat oxidation by inhibiting the activity of citrate lyase, an enzyme which plays a crucial role in converting carbohydrate into fat. However, three days of HCA supplementation (3 grams daily) has no effect on fat oxidation at rest or during exercise when 30-35% of the calories in the diet come from fat [24].

What's more, several studies show that HCA (1.5 to 3 grams daily) has no effect on weight loss in humans. Researchers from Maastricht University, for example, found that HCA, either taken alone or combined with medium-chain triglycerides, does not increase weight loss over a two-week period [23]. Eleven overweight male subjects consumed three meals and four snacks daily with either no supplementation, 500 milligrams of HCA, or 500 milligrams of HCA and three grams of medium-chain triglycerides. Although all subjects lost weight, there was no difference between groups.

One other way in which HCA is thought to promote weight loss is by suppressing hunger. However, a three-month study of 89 overweight females at Purdue University shows that 1.2 grams of HCA daily has no effect on appetite. Interestingly, the group using HCA did lose more weight (8 pounds versus 5 pounds) than subjects given a placebo [27]. In contrast, a trial published in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows no effect of HCA on weight loss over the same period [16]

One study presented at the 2002 Experimental Biology meeting shows that very high doses of HCA may be beneficial. In this trial, 48 subjects received either 2.8 grams of HCA daily or a placebo 30 minutes before meals (8.6 grams of HCA daily) [31]. Both groups consumed 2,000 calories daily and exercised regularly. Subjects using HCA lost almost 5% of their weight after eight weeks. Those in the placebo group lost just under 2%.

I bought hydroxycut about a month ago and in my opinion it was a complete waste of money, I didn't have any more energy and it was a pain to take it a 30 minutes before I ate, needless to say I stopped taking it after about a week. I did lose a couple pounds, but I was eating very clean and keeping my calories about 500 below maintenance. For the three weeks since I've stopped taking hydroxycut I haven't noticed any noticeable difference in weight loss. I'm losing about the same just eating clean and walking my dog a couple times a week. So with my experience if you just eat right and exercise you don't need to waste your money, just take a sugar pill and pretend its hydroxycut I bet it has the same effect. Just my 2 cents.

when carbohydrates are consumed in the diet, the body reduces them to blood glucose. The glucose is then facilitated into cells by the hormone insulin. From here glucose may have a number of different destinies. Some is stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen. when needed, the body converts the stored glycogen back into glucose. the other primary metabolic route of glucose is to be broken down into smaller sub units by way of the citric acid cycle.

if glucose is available in excess and not needed by the body, it it converted to fat by the process of lypogenesis. although humans usually don't produce a great deal of fat from carbohydrates, any amount produced is significant as even small quantities can block the body's fat metabolizing process.

the last step of glycolysis takes place inside the mitochondria. the product produced is citrate, which is then sent outside the mitochondria to be broken down into subunits used in the production of fat. here is where HCA comes into play
-in order for citrate to be broken down the enzyme "ATP citrate lyase" must be present. HCA blocks the activity of this enzyme and alters the body's fat and glucose metabolism in the following ways. first, the pathway for glycogen production becomes easier than continuing with glucose metablolism into fat. second, with fat production slowed down the body begins to metabolize stored fat as an energy source. finally, pyruvate ends up either completely burned in the citric acid cycle or is recycled to form lactate and phosphoenolpyruvate. these two substances can also be used for fuel during the production of glucose and ultimately glycogen. the increased glycogen supplies are then stored in the liver and muscles, and while liver storage is not noticeable, muscles full of glycogen appear larger and full.
HCA also indirectly suppresses appetite, after all, the body thinks is had plenty of fuel available so the brain decreases the sensation of hunger.
