Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
I like to have some Oats (Quaker Oats in that tube) with skim milk and some honey in the mornings and sometimes during the day as a snack. Is this healthy for me?
I feel like the honey (sugar) is a bad idea, yet the Oatmeal tastes so bad without it.
I posed questions about "What Should I eat to attain my goal of fat loss and muscle gain" in this forum and received great info on what I should be eating. I have been eating chicken and an overall good diet; but not mentioned was where my oats can fit in (IF at all)...
Other question...
Supplements of protein, which should I be taking?
I was thinking about Lean Body Low Carb during the day (2 times per day with about 20g protein or half packet; one packet has about 12g of carbs and 2 g fat) and then after my evening workout a whole packet of Isopure with 50g protein, 0 fat, and 25g of carbs. I figure that after the workout I will burn the carbs fast and the protein will be most needed.
During the day, I'll eat breakfast at 8, 1/2 Lean Bod shake at 10, lunch at 12, 1/2 Lean Bod shake at 2, snack at 4, work out at about 6 or 7 (or later at times, in which case I will eat again), then Isopure right after workout, eat again at 10 or so and sleep about 1/2-1 hour after that...
Is this a good plan? I will be working out 5 times per week with weights AND cardio as well as HIIT.
Please comment and make any changes to the above proposal I have gathered together.
Another question... Where can I buy these supplements the cheapest? I buy now in a health store (small one) and feel that the prices are too high....
One more, has anyone ever tried Glaceau Smart Water? Or Glaceau Vitamin Water? Any views on either/both? Johnka gave me the following advice: "The protein content of the post-workout period is critical. You’ll want to consume a liquid recovery drink with about a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein. So about 20 grams of soy or whey protein, together with 40 grams of simple carbs, like a Gatorade..... [Glucose-electrolyte beverage like Gatorade]."
Glaceau Smart Water has electrolytes, so is it safe to have it instead of the Gatorade? I am not sure about this whole Gatorade idea.... Most people during working out seem to drink water, so is it truly a good idea for me to drink Gatorade? Is there a different drink than Gatorade that I can drink?
Thank you!
Anna

i use a little brown sugar (5-10g) in my oats for flavor. i don't sweat it over this amount. maybe try splenda if you feel guilty about the sugar, or drop either the honey or the milk to decrease the sugar.
another option for protein shakes is muscle milk. i have mm (chocolate milk flavor) & it is the greatest protein shake i've ever tasted by far (taste is important to me ). i bought mine at www.wholesalesuperstore.com for cheap. 4 - 2.48# jugs $77.60 (shipping included), so $1.29 per serving.
Hmmm..... I am now seriously thinking about buying Intake Performance along with the following:
LEANFIRE™ keeps your metabolism optimized even when operating on reduced calories, and increases energy levels to support an active and healthy lifestyle. LEANFIRE™ contains these proven and effective ingredients:
50 mg of 7 - Keto DHEA
Ramps up metabolism by activating key fat burning enzymes
May help prevent "diet induced" metabolic decline
255 mg of Evolean™ - A proprietary blend of extracts standardized for the highest levels of:
95% pure E and Z Gugulsterones-to help optimize thyroid activity
Evodiamine-an exciting new compound that accelerates fat-loss by increasing your body's core temperature
Rhodiola-a powerful herb that helps increase energy, stamina, and combat oxidative stress
300 mg Caffeine, 135 mg EGCG from Green Tea, and 650 mg Tyrosine
Increases caloric expenditure for maximum fat burn
Minimize carbohydrate conversion to body fat
Maximize stamina, endurance and work capacity
INSTONE™'s LeanFire™ works by keeping your metabolism ramped up to burn fat as well as increasing your energy and stamina. LeanFire™ also works to optimize thyroid activity to burn fat and contains ingredients to maximize endurance, focus, and combat stress.
As such, LeanFire™ is an optimal product to help you lose weight and gain the energy that you are looking for. It is a perfect addition to your diet/exercise regimen and will definitely jump start your program!
Directions:
Please be aware that LeanFire™ and many diet products contain caffeine. There is the equivalent of approximately 1 cup of coffee in one capsule of LeanFire™. The recommended dosage for males is 1-3 capsules before eating and/or strenuous exercise. Lighter individuals and females may want to start off with 1 capsule and gradually increase dose. It is not recommended taking this product during the evening, as restlessness and sleeplessness may result. Please consult your doctor before taking this or any dietary supplement.
WARNING:
The recommended dose of this product contains about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. Limit the use of caffeine-containing medications, foods, or beverages while taking this product because too much caffeine may cause nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, and, occasionally, rapid heart beat. Not intended for persons under 18 years of age. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your healthcare professional prior to use if you have or suspect a medical condition, are taking prescription drugs, or are pregnant or lactating.
Any recommendations/opinions?
Anna
P.S. I realize that I may lose weight and fat fast this way and that muscle building will be difficult in such sense. Yet, I rather lose the fat, lean up, lose some weight and then pack on the muscles. ;o)

Just add some Splenda to the oatmeal before cooking it at it tastes ok. Then just add some natural peanut butter and your oatmeal will taste great. I also add a banana or raisens as well but that'll add more carbs that you may not want if you are restricting them.
I'm not sure about those supplements. 99% of all 'weight-loss' supplements (or ones that claim to help you lose alot of weight) are useless and/or overpriced. Without looking too closely, the ingredients in those supplements look pretty standard. Intakepreformance looks like an MRP, leanfire is an 'energy-booster' and weight loss supplement. If the intakepreformance is cheap then it wouldn't be a bad option but whole foods are always better.
It's not so much the electrolytes that matter, it's the carbs. Gatorade has glucose in it which is important. You can just buy dextrose and maltodextrin and use those instead of gatorade if you want.
I read this in the Body for Life cookbook, I tried it and I love it. Yes, Oatmeal by itself is quite plain. Here is is...1/2 - 3/4 cup oatmeal and add in 1 scoop chocolate protein (20grams I think) and add 1/2 cup or so of water. Mix and microwave for 1 min 30 sec. Remove and add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and mix until peanut butter is melted. The add some milk and sweeten to taste (I use a packet or two of splenda). Then enjoy.

IntakePerformance sounds pretty good, but at $2.75 per serving, it's very pricey. If I were you I'd buy one tub of protein with carbs for your PWO shake, and another tub of protein without carbs for snacks during the day and adding to your oatmeal.
For the PWO shake, my girlfriend really likes Nature's Plus Spiru-tein, banana flavor: http://www.totaldiscountvitamins.com...socID=dealtime
It has soy protein, spirulina, vitamins, minerals, diet aids, enzymes, and fiber. One scoop has 14g protein and 11g carbs, and she adds a banana in the blender and loves it (and she's a very picky eater).
