Question

The chocolate cravings are killing me right now. I have been eating well, and eating plenty. Lots of fresh veggies and lean protein. I get my big cravings at night, so last night I snacked on dry roasted peanuts and sunflower seeds, and I drank Fresca and Diet Mug Root Beer to get some sweet flavor, but today I have really been craving sugars, which makes me realize just how addicted to them I was. I am in withdrawals now, and I am just curious how long they will last. Does it take a good week on this diet before you safely break the addiction?

I won't quit now though. I am on a mission to destroy my doughboy nature!

If only I had the determination...I would be in real good shape.

JP, look for Sugar Buster's Fudge Bars! The wife and I used to have one every night for dessert but we've slacked off of them lately. Since I don't have a box currently, I can't tell you exactly what's in them but I know they didn't have sugar in them, they taste great... AND THEY'RE CHOCOLATE!

I don't know if they'll be hard to find in LR. The grocery store in our little town with two traffic lights (one was just added) has lots of Sugar Buster's products on the shelves (great choice for bread!) but the larrger city where we work doesn't have any in their grocery stores.

JP,

Last night I messed-around with a new recipe - s'mores bars. I'm eating one right now and damn they're good

They're very chocolatey, and only have around 10 grams of sugar.

I still want to tweak the recipe and write it up, but I'll get back to you when I'm finished.

JP: Kind of a good question. If you were restricting carbs to the point of ketosis, which you're not, I'd say a few days. For some it's not as long, for some it's longer. It's called the metabolic shift and it takes a little time for your body to adjust to using fat as it's primary fuel source instead of carbs.

However, your case is a little different. You probably won't shift into using fat as your primary fuel source. So I'd like to give you a number, but I can't. In the past, it usually takes me a week or so. Hang in there, and if you need a mental break, give yourself a "cheat" day once a week. That way, even if you're craving chocolate, you'll know that you'll get to have it soon. Most of the time this diet shouldn't be a struggle, but I guess it can be initially depending on how you've been eating. Eat a lot and drink a lot of water.

As for milk, mainly just because it's relatively high in carbs compared to the rest of the foods in the diet. That's really the only reason.

Blue Bunny low carb chocolate almond. You can buy it at Wal Mart. You have those in Little Rock don't you?
