Check out Johnka's article in Berardi's newsletter. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but it looks pretty interesting.

Don't take my lack of response as any indication as to what I thought of your article. I'm just crazy busy right now and, about the time things may slow down, I'll be leaving for vacation.

I do hope to come back to it... in time!

Very interesting article. Is there any archaeological evidence which indicates the presence of heart disease in any of our prehistoric ancestors? I'm guessing that such information is not available since the cadiovascular system is not preserved like bones, but it would be interesting to study if it were.

Hey Doc!

Excellent article. Enjoyable and understandable to the lay person. I printed it out and am going to force my wife to read it.

Throughout the article, I was thinking "but eating the grain fed, growth hormone, pen-raised meat of today isn't the same as eating the free roaming lean meat of the neanderthal.' And then, you brought it up at the end of the article! Scary.

Great job! BTW, have you ever met the 'large professor' in person? And did he finally get his doctorate?

Hi TD,
Little to no evidence for heart disease. The average life span was late 20's to early 30's in the Paleolithic, mainly because lack of modern medicine and an overall riskier lifestyle (hunting wild game, etc.). So in most cases they didn't live long enough to develop CHD like we see today.

Thanks Kaiser!

I think we've been on the same page about free-range meat since we posted similar rants about xenoestrogens on the MH forum a couple of years ago. I think you were the only one who took the time to read my long-winded thread

I haven't actually met JB in person, but we do communicate very frequently with email. We both keep joking that we're going to start a lecture tour together - he talks about modern nutrition, and I back him up with the prehistoric record. Who knows, maybe someday it will happen. If I make it up to Toronto, I'll definitely pay him a visit, after stopping through Chicago to hang with you first of course

By the way, I'm building a new faculty website - I bet you'd enjoy perusing it if you get a chance:
