Question

I also posted this on the belly off board at MH.

I had come to far. I was featured in the belly off section of the Mens Health magazine.

Well, a lot has changed since then. I took a high stress job in late 2001 that has helped me to fall into bad habits. I've put on 60 lbs, binge eat and drink and the stress in my job has lowered my ability to lose fat.

I am so unmotivated and need help getting my butt in gear. My wife is now pregnant and I have 4 months to move in a positive direction before I'll have another stressor (a very positive one though!) in my life.

Needless to say my workouts are less regular as well even though I became certified through the ISSA last year (I don't work in fitness)

Any advice?

Tracy,

Read your own post. You have the answers and all the advice you need to get turned around.

There's certainly no magic required here, but if you need to vent or discuss some issues, we're all happy to help.

Thanks Bill for the reply. I hope this doesn't throw the whole post off topic but....

I realize what I am about to say is a crutch but you said I could vent: I'm not sure where corporate america gets off the way it does. For instance, I work in sales. Every year it is my goal to sell more and more product. However, the company I work for basically raises your sales goals each year by 15%. Now, 15% isn't a huge amount the first few years but eventually it catches up to where its next to impossible. Of course along with this comes the probable outcome of being fired if you fail to reach the goals.

Now, I have had 2 great years here. In fact, last year, I had the most successful year anyone has ever had in my position at my office. And yet I failed to make the business plan.

How do you guys handle the 'I do my best and thats all I can do' issue? I don't really lose a lot of sleep over this but it is on my mind most waking hours.

And, another crutch, part of the reason for my eating and drinking to excess is trying to fit in with the boss. Its tough to tell the guy that signs the check to stick it.

As a side note, I work for the largest division of one of the 30 largest companies in world.

Some of you who know me have read posts like this from me before. I feel pretty pathetic seeing that I just turned 33 and seem to struggle with these issues.

Okay, brother. Here's the deal.

1) Get yourself to a gym. As a matter of fact, I happen to know one right down the road from where you work. I even happen to know a guy who would be happy to meet you there at lunchtime.

2) High stress indicates you need to work out more, not less....but you knew that, didn't you? See number 1, above

3) You need to find someone to talk to about sales, and about the stress it produces and how to do it better. Coincidence: So do I! I have taken to talking to another guy named russman on texastodd about that very topic. Feel free to pm me at texastodd or email me at FishrCutB8@hotmail.com...I'd love to chat about the process with you. Sure, you sell elevators (right?) and I sell radio, but the process is the same...honestly. Hey, we could even get together for lunch sometime, if you'd like...I take mine at the gym....See number 1, above.

4) Corporate America gets off on the bottom line...because that's what matters. Are you doing everything you can? Truly? Then it's time to talk to the sales manager. But if not, then perhaps it's time to talk to other sales people, and get yourself focused to conquer the world...because you can, you know? A good place to start your conquering process? See number 1, above.

Thanks Fish. Good post.

I realize it all starts with # 1. In fact, I started experiencing success in life when I was most diligent about step 1.

Thanks for your email address as well. It would be helpful. Brian Tracy never writes back.
