Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
Would like to know if anyone has read or heard of them, and what they know about them (good reads, reliable info, reliable author, etc.). Even if you haven't read or heard of them, opinions are still welcome. Here they are:
Leigh had something to say about the last one there… iirc it wasn't terribly flattering. She wasn't the only one. If it's what I am thinking it is, of course. Here, I searched. http://leighpeele.blogspot.com/2007/...ots-guide.html
so I guess it's sorta a "good parts and bad parts"
Thanks a lot Aoife. Here's a conclusion from the blog.
The Final Conclusion: Good Taubes, Bad Taubes
• If you are looking for a resource to try and help prove that you are the 1%, then this book is for you!
• If you are looking for a resource to help back up why the government has it all wrong and not shockingly is trying to manipulate you, the general public, then this book is for you!
• If you are looking to learn endless study story after study story about why the “nutritional pyramid” is on crack, then this book is for you!
• If you are looking for another source to blame something other than yourself for why you aren’t losing fat, then this book is for you!
• Finally, if you are looking to have a ride on the hate the carb train even though time and again study after study has shown that diet on high carbs can cause you to lose weight if in a caloric deficit but still carbs are evil then you have found your literal best friend!
It seems like it has it's ups and downs, but the bolded stuff is some of what I'm looking to get out of this, sort of. I do want to know about the studies. The main goal, though, is that I want to know all about saturated fat, why it's good or bad, what effects it has or doesn't have on cholesterol/heart disease, how much is safe to eat, what particular kinds have what effects, etc.
I'm not sure if it is beneficial in that sense. Any other thoughts?
Anthony Colpo has his facts put together very well.. that book would be recommendable. He also wrote a very decent e-book on fat loss, called The Fat Loss Bible.
Unlike other e-books, this one requires a username & password, so freebies aren't possible, so maybe that's why you haven't heard as much about it..
He also has his own forum, renamed into Sweat but the URL is still LowCarbMuscle: http://www.lowcarbmuscle.com/forums/
Interesting tidbit about him.. he was (or still is) a staunch advocate of low-carb diets, esp the Paleo-style ones, until discovering that if you wanted to pursue really intense endurance stuff you can't recover w/o carbs.. who knew . What makes him stand out in the low-carb 'crowd' is that he will NOT stick to old/wrong views but will write in no unclear terms about how & why he changed his mind.

The main problem I had with him is that he absolutely insists that losing weight through diet and exercise is 100% impossible. Not hard, not improbable, but impossible. And he refuses to even address one case where anyone has lost weight through diet and/or exercise.
If you somehow lost weight, it's only because you were genetically predisposed to so. Although how you then gained the weight in the first place isn't explained by Taubes.
I had stop myself from throwing the book away after I read it.

Thats no good at all . Is he like that in his other stuff too?
I thought I'd chime in. Im not familar with the great cholesterol con but titalating names is marketing 101. everybody loves a good conspiracy whether its UFOs being held in secret labs in Nevada to "natural cures" THEY dont want you to know about. Cholesterol plays a role in heart disease. that we are sure of. But, its not the only player in the game. for example, CRP, triglycerides, homocysteine and others are also involved as too is the lack of exercise that most people get.
