Default Skinny Bitch

Just finished this book. I'm not vegetarian though the book certainly makes one consider the conversion. Just wondering who else has read it and your thoughts about it.

Read Leigh's evaluation of "Skinny Bastard"-wonder if it's based on the same principle. rofl

I read it but have very mixed feelings about it.
I generally agreed with what they had to say but only because none of it was really all that new to me. A few years ago, I considered going vegetarian because of ethical reasons - I couldn't stand the way animals were treated and it disgusts me how much animal by-product, hormones and other sh*t is pumped into them. So I completely agreed with this portion of the book, however I am such a hypocrite. I started to give up meat in stages and haven't eaten read meat or pork in years but I feel like I wouldn't be able to give up chicken and fish. I eat a lot of lean chicken breast and salmon for their protein/iron levels. It's such a big part of my diet right now that I don't know how I could replace it. I try to buy free-range chicken and eggs though.
I COULDN'T do vegan though, there's probably no way. Otherwise I agreed with everything else they said, including aspartame and other sweeteners, it wasn't a surprising news flash. Id rather have real natural sugar over aspartame anyday but I like some of the variations they had like agave nectar.

I didn't care for their hostile better-than-you attitude though but I guess it sells the book, eh? (I'm Canadian)

Human beings are biologically omnivores, with a heavy emphasis on carnivore. Vegetarianism is neither healthy, natural, or ethical.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's not healthy.

It's the only book I've ever read that I immediately threw away, rather than give to a friend, donate or keep. I thought it was trash. There might have been a few valid points in the book but mostly, it was rubbish. (And I've been down the vegetarian path and try to stay open minded in respect to others diets.)

Just my opinion.

My wife started it and would tell me what each chapter was about. We thought it was terrible.

Agreed. I couldn't stand how they alternated btw. self-loathing and an incredibly hostile attitude to those who eat meat and other animal products. Kudos to you if you're able to maintain a healthy and nutritionally-sound vegan lifestyle, but don't give me a guilt trip about not being veg, either.

I'm developing a book proposal and have been scouring Barnes & Noble's health, diet, and fitness sections for competing titles.

This one made me gag the most, having both the best marketing and worst advice I've ever seen, while earning the bro-appointed title of 'most deceptive.'

While I was in Tokyo last year the Japanese translation was selling like crazy. I can't believe stuff like this can get published in the States, let alone internationally.

Extremism sells. Skinny Bitch has a lucrative niche, in or out of the kitch.

I'm surprised it isn't shelved in the humor section.

It's not natural to have vegetables and fruit (can even say the same about nuts/seeds) without animals - their fertilizer makes the veggies and fruits grow. Without - you're using synthetic chemicals.

The book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" explains that to choose the healthiest, most sustainable diet, select animals raised on grass pastures and as part of a farming community. This way you're supporting the ethical use of them in our food supply.

Yes, and Skinny Bitch is definitely extreme. I personally am not a fan.

So I was a vegetarian for 10 years. From 14 to 24. Only in this past year did I decide to start eating meat again. My reasons are unclear...I started because of animal rights, I ended because I felt I was missing out on so much.

I picked up Skinny Bitch not knowing it was going to be so vegan biased. I went through 1 chapter and since I haven't wanted to pick it up. I know what they are going to say. I followed what they have to say for years and I can't say I felt THAT great. TO be honest, I don't notice a difference between being vegetarian or a meat eater. I have always ate healthy either way.

Eh...I just think those chicks need to chill out. They made their profit, now they can get off their soapbox.
