ISSFAL Recommended Dosage

Infants (1–18 months)
0–15 lbs
32 mg/lb EPA+DHA

Children (1.5–15 yrs)

15 mg/lb EPA+DHA


Adults (15–115 yrs)

500 mg EPA+DHA
220 mg EPA (minimum)
220 mg DHA (minimum)


Lactating Women

300 mg DHA daily


I mega dose CLO-this helped greatly with my Fibro and related IBS issues. I am under the care of an endo also and check with him with any about any supps & vits I take.

Why would an adult take the minimum dosage when all of the research shows increased benefits up to 3 grams total?

Poorly understood and lack of research over minimum and optimum dosages. Further complicated by equally poor understanding and lack of research on safe maximum doses. All of which could likely vary amongst different people.

Fishoils: I tend to max out on higher doses, but it may reactivate my once controlled GERD

Vitamin D: optimal blood levels may be considerably higher than minimums, not much research out there, lot of suppositions

Potencies vary so unless a specific brand is being referred to counts of tablets have little meaning. Specifications/recommendations only make sense when taking about grams of EPA and/or DHA.
It may be that the Random Forumite was trying to say that bigger guys might need more than skinny guys. I can't say that I disagree too much if that was the intent.
