Default Question about PB2

The serving size listed on PB2 - 2 tbsp, or 12 gm - is this supposed to be equivalent to 1 tbsp real peanut butter, or 2 tbsp? I'm trying to figure out how to substitute PB2 in some of my recipes where I use peanut butter. For example if a recipe calls for 1/4 peanut butter, should I be using 4tbsp PB2 (+the necessary water) or 8 tbsp?

I don't know....mix up 8T with the required amount of water. How much do you have? Is it 1/4 cup? If so, use it. If you need more or less, adjust accordingly and count your grams accordingly.

IME, the 2 Tbsp of dry PB2 mix up to be a little less than 2 Tbsp once you add the water.

Here, I just did some rough estimates for you (a little PB2 snack sounded good to me)

2 level Tbsp PB2 dry = 12 g (good, cause that's what the label says)
+ 1 Tbsp water = 25 grams total

I mixed that up and measured it out into level measuring spoons. That amount of PB2 filled 1 Tbsp + 1 and 1/4 tsp which is equal to about 1.4 Tbsp.

So, for every 2 Tbsp of dry PB2 you get about 1.4 Tbsp of 'wet' PB2. A fourth of a cup is 4 Tbsp. so if you do the math it comes out to about 5.7 Tbsp dry PB2 to equal about 1/4 of a cup wet PB2.

5.7 Tbsp is about 1/3 of a cup dry PB2 to mix up 1/4 of a cup wet.

Actual numbers YOU get may vary.

haha, Thanks Snarlla! I just got PB2 for the first time yesterday, and last night I mixed up 12gm dry with some water. I thought it looked like more than 1tbsp of peanut butter but not quite 2. My estimate was that 2tbsp PB2 yields the equivalent of about 1.5 tbsp of regular peanut butter - sounds like you confirmed that! I am a math geek and probably would have done the same thing you did next time I use my PB2

I had actually been meaning to do this, because I've been using PB2 in some recipes as well. I've been just sort of guesstimating, but it turns out I was pretty close. So anyway, I'm glad you posted and reminded me to crunch the numbers out.

I made something tasty the other night that you might want to try...

It was a 'peanutty panko breaded chicken'. Basically you take dijon mustard and honey (about = amounts of each) and add some PB2 to it. Mix well. Coat the chicken in the honey mustard peanut mixture and then bread it with the plain panko crumbs. Spray the coated chicken with Pam and cook at ~400 F till they are done. I serve a peach chutney with this and it's very very tasty, which surprised me because I wouldn't look at peach chutney and think it looked appetizing. LOL!

That sounds delish! I sometimes make a coconut-peanut tilapia - I mix coconut milk with curry powder, dip the fish in that, and then in a panko/crushed peanut mixture. I bet I could use PB2 in here. I also make Thai Peanut Turkey burgers a lot - they are a favorite in our household, and I might try the PB2 in those to reduce the cals. (That link is actually to my food blog.) We love anything with peanut sauce and I really look forward to trying the PB2 in those dishes. I bookmarked this one recently - Mango Avocado Salad with Peanut Dressing. I think I'll try that with the PB2 and add some grilled shrimp for a great meal high in protein and good fats

Yum, yum! You are making me hungry! I'll check out your food blog.

ETA: Okay, I've got to try those turkey burgers. They look awesome!
