Default Maltodextrin

Anyone used maltodextrin supp post workout in their shakes? I'm trying it for the first time tonight -- using NOW Carbo Gain. Just wondering.....any taste to this stuff? I need to use half a cup and just wondering what it's going to do to the taste and/or consistency of my PWO shake.

Used maltodextrin all the time in my cycling days. It's flavourless, which is a bonus when you need a gazillion grams of it for multi-day events.

Good to know, Espi. I *COULD* have just dipped my finger in and tried it for myself, but since I'm so finicky with tastes, I couldn't bring myself to do it! Figured someone would have the answer here!

A girl can only eat so many Smarties and Pixie Sticks after a workout, so tonight it's the maltodextrin and a banana in my PWO shake for a change.

That would be a perfect mix to still have some flavour in it.

Maltodextrin fuels me during long runs and longer races. If you are using that much of it combined with a protein powder that is sweetened with splenda, it might be too sweet. I would be tempted to use unsweetened unflavored whey mixed in a blender with 100 percent orange juice concentrate and some of that homemade vanilla extract of yours . Add some milk too for dreamsicle heaven!

Oooh Jane just thought of those frozen daquiri mixes that are next to the frozen OJ concentrate. You could make some kind of whey mocktail!

75g of malto seems a bit overkill, doesn't it (unless you're doing extreme steady state work)? especially considering that's is basically a sugar.

She's doing UD2.0. I think she's getting tired of eating a bazillion carbs in one day.

I, on the other hand, would eat 150g of C worth of Red Vines or Hot Tamales, no prob. with relish.

Not sure where you got the 75 grams from...1/2 cup is 47 grams. I need around 100 grams of carbs in my PWO shake consisting of malto/dextrose/fructose; hence the added banana+ to bump it up to the required 100 or so.

ETA: Yes, Roland, I also would have no problem with red vines! It's just this PWO shake that needs to be more of the above combo...THEN, after that there's definitely some candy on the menu! After all, that's just 100 carbs of the eventual 700 I will be consuming in the next 24 hours!!

ah, alright. I was thinking 1/2 cup of malto was 75g. Sounds like you're on the right patch.
