Best fat/oil for protein shake?
I have been adding 1 tsp of coconut oil to my protein shakes (1 cup skim milk, 1 scoop allmax chocolate mint pp). If you guys add oil or fat to your shakes, what kind do you use? I'm debating coconut vs flax, mostly. I prefer the taste of coconut oil.

If it's flaxseeds, then cool. Flaxseed oil is overrated. The conversion of ALA to DHA/EPA is too low, so it's not worth it.
use lowfat or whole milk, coconut oil or olive oil. What you use depends on what you need (what the rest of your diet is like). That being said, 1 tsp is nothing. Use anything you like.

You could add avocado if you just want to add some fat. Or crunch some nuts outside of the shake.

If it's a workout shake, I'd probably say none.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

For shakes, I prefer coconut cream to the oil. I freeze it in portions in an ice cube tray then empty it into a ziplock baggy for shake making.

Coconut oil has about 50% MCT fatty acids that are rapidly absorbed. My partner puts it in his shakes all the time and I even add some to my pre-WO coffee. Just don't OD on it. 1 tsp or even 1 tbsp is just fine.

Sorry I forgot to say what I have the shake for.
I use it as a snack during my night shifts. I usually drink it at around 2-4am. Sometimes, I am not allowed to leave my desk during that shift so I use whatever I can pack inside the cooler at the desk. I can't use a blender.

No blender for shakes?
Damn..
I
gotta make my shakes and drink them right away, as after even an hour they don't taste as good..
If you have to do shakes rather than whole foods at work you could just do a casein-based protein powder, milk, and peanut butter..
Blend it all together beforehand, give it a good shake before drinking..
That would still taste all right later, I guess..
Lost Dog is right, though.. 1 tsp isn't going to make a difference..
Just use whole milk instead of skim, as the others have said..

From what I read from the likes of Alan Aragon and Lyle McDonald, a little bit of fat in your PWO shake isn't a big deal at all..
The main thing is hitting your macros and calories for the day..

I use dairy cream in shakes all the time. I mix with water and then add a splash.

I drink this every night before bed, and it's delicious:
7 oz coconut milk
7 oz canned pumpkin
48g Jarrow unflavored whey powder
2 tbsp macadamia nut oil
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spices
I can see how this would look gross, but somehow, everything combines nicely- you can't taste the olive oil at all and the pumpkin gives it a nice texture.
