Default Are You Getting What You Pay For?

In some cases maybe not. Shocking?

Organic mock duck contains a synthetic ingredient that gives it an authentic, stringy texture.
How the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks can anything "mock" be organic.

And no I'm not surprised. "Organic" is the new "fat-free."

Simple, it's ingredients are organic. (The actual example, in which there are synthetic ingredients notwithstanding.)

There's nothing wrong with labeling "mock" anything as organic if it is, what's annoying is that the people eating it think they're getting organic when maybe they're not. Since I'd venture that a goodly number of the people who would eat a "mock" meat are veggies, and there's a good chance they are for (at least partly) environmental reasons.

That's fair. It's not the point of view I'm coming from, so it seems odd to me. But, I see your point. And yes, the bigger issue is the lack of integrity.

Nice. We have to be skeptical of all of these labels and logos. Organic, natural, all natural, "contains whole grains," "a day's supply of Omega-3s," "heart healthy," "free range," etc.

Read your ingredient and nutrition labels
Avoid processed/mass produced foods
Practice skepticism and do your research/be aware (and try not to slip into the purely cynical...)
Do your best. You gotta eat.

There's really no way around this crap. Everyone is always going to pull some marketing scheme. Honestly you never have a surefire way to know where the stuff comes from. It's so sad.

More erosion of standards. So what next? A new label? What comes after organic?
