Default Is there a good, quality protein powder that WONT make me so gassy????

It's frustrating. I'm trying to use protein powder 3 x daily, but I'm so gassy from it. I'm using Optimum Nutrition Whey and I am mixing it with water and almond milk (never have a problem with those). Any suggestions? I thought this one was supposed to be lactose free or at least it's supposed to contain Lactase.

why 3times a day?
Try less often, perhaps.

Or you can try non-wheys… some powders are beef protein, some are egg, and there's even soy (but that tends to taste bad in my experience).

Are you sure it's the protein powder? Are you eating any Fiber One bars or any sort of bar with sugar alcohols in them?

That's funny you asked that because I had a Zone bar earlier today. I haven't had a bar in a long time. Do you think it's more the bar?

Thanks.

Well, Zone bars don't seem to be a culprit as much as Fiber One and South Beach, for example. At least for me. But, I know that if I eat either of those other two....I need to isolate myself! LOL! It's not pretty. I've heard of people reacting to PP, though. I just thought I'd mention the bars because we solved a similar case to yours a while back and it was, indeed, the bars causing the problem.

It is more likely that the gas is from unabsorbed protein reaching the bacteria in your bowel. The excess content stimulates BMs and likely is absorbed by bacteria which use the macronutrients similarly to sugar with gas as a bi-product. No one knows how much protein you can absorb at once, or how it can change over time, but you can adjust the number of servings and frequency to test for yourself. Try starting with a max of 20 grams every 3-4 hours (coming from a supplement or meals) and move up as tolerated.

I use the protein products from Vega and Genuine Health and they are excellent quality! I mix mine with rice milk and water and I've never had any issues.
