so this is going to sound weird, but right now I go to uconn and eat a majority of my meals in their dinning hall... one small problem. It seems as though every time I walk out of the dinning hall I have to cough. Its a huge nasty cough and it makes me feel like I am about to throw up. Ive actually thrown up 2 or 3 times. At first I thought I just had to cough and I was so full that I felt like I was about to throw up but today I had a very small meal and actually threw up. I have no idea what causes this or if anyone has heard anything like this before but any information on the topic would be good. It is really inhibiting my weight gain :-P
I don't have a solution to your problem, however, I have experienced having a cough so bad that it caused me to upchuck. Usually if I can calm the throat (by drinking some water), it stops the cough & the heave.
I would suspect that since you indicate it occurring at the dinning hall, that it may be something you are eating (possibly allergy) or something air-borne that is triggering the cough.

no I eat what ever looks appetizing. There is the rumors of laxtives in the food... Do you think that is a possibility?
Also... It doesnt happen unless I eat at the dinning halls. It has happened at every dinning hall I have eaten at. It usually happens after I get up and am walking back to my room(after I leave to dinning hall) It has been happing since half way through first semester so I have had plenty of meals with all sorts of different combination of food and it still happens
Perhaps it is habits rather than the food. Do you converse more while eating in dining halls - maybe swallow more air or chew less or drink less with the meal and then when you get up and walk a little it all hits you? Or even the other extreme - eat really quickly and then just leave?
good idea. I usually drink a lot when I eat and tend to eat pretty fast. Ill try slowing down and drinking less. Ill be sure to let you know how that goes
If you had other problems, I'd suggest sulfates or whatever they put in some foods to keep them "fresh," but I'd think you'd be posting about explosive diarrhea problems.
(HA, the definition of diarrhea in the dictionary is funneh.)
...and this only occurs when you eat in the dining halls?
Maybe it's an allergy to something they use in the majority of the food.
I would second that. Coughing is a reflex designed to expel matter so your body wants to get rid of whatever you have eaten. A wacko answer would be to say it could be psychological, you could probably test it out by eating outside the dinning hall with said food.
